He wakes up, sort of, to the sounds he always hears. The screams, the promises that 'he don't mean it, he's just drunk' are quickly drowned out by the sounds from below. The sounds of the ghettoes. Traffic, people, shouts

"Nah, I fucked up. You guys're taking good care of her?"
He shivers, trying to remember the last time he really felt cold. A hand comes up, fingering one of the bullet holes. Or maybe its where one of the spikes hit.
"I'd have to come kick your asses if you weren't."

She's watching the base tonight and working on her aim. Her "shield," name gave her an idea she she's been trying to aim and otherwise work a round shield/desk to see if it's a doable thing. As the rhythm of the ricochets fills the room she finds herself singing...
"Well, there is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one..."
And as the song ends, she can hear Travis's laughter about her, lab tables, and sex from years ago echo as clearly as if he was standing behind her watching her confusion.
Speaking of confusion, she had so much more data, but...not context. She was trying to sort it out, but Chimp's trip. It was why she opted out of the team meeting. Everything from the cry of the baby she placed in the upscale Miami 'burb to the smell of the urine and Travis's entire medical file was all there but relating it to how and why he did what he did with the Chimp? It was all data, and the only time she was good a diagnosing a problem was when emergencies

"I just got back on base. Give me a few, Chimp." Sand immediately bolts to ops...they're right. Deserted.
A few buttons, a lock-on, and the trio are sent immediately to the medlab. Sand also sends out a code red to the remainder of the team.
A minute or two later, Sand walks into the medlab. "I'm having the rest of the team meet in he...dear god." He takes one look at Travis and visibly flinches.
He looks a little lost...Tara was the team medic. And she's not here. "The transporter had been used a little while ago...by Tara. It took her to Idaho. I have no idea where everyone else is..."
Travis still looks like hell, but the presence is there. He has something to fight for now, so the ring is working overtime to patch him together while he's relatively sedate. He avoids any kind of sedatives or painkillers - nice as it'd be, he's fairly sure that there'd be bigger problems if he's not fully with it and fighting. At the very least though, he's more than happy to sit down, his 'body cast' effect keeping him from bleeding on anything, focusing everything he has on being in shape enough to fight for Tara when the time comes.
He doesn't bother to share with Sand what he told Chimp - he's not sure he expects to last much beyond that.

The Chimp climbs up over the edge of the roof, then looks back over his shoulder. "Up here!" he calls. He turns back to Travis, moving over to him.
"You've seen better days, kid."

"No I haven't. Today is a lot better than the last time I saw anything."
He shifts up a little, wincing as his insides shift. That's not supposed to happen.
"Hey Chimp."

Her focus becomes laser sharp. "Where are you?"
She's already loading up and running for the transporter. "and are you alone?"
