Ralph wheels his chair up to Wally's place in the bay, stretching out an arm to rest on his shoulder.

"Hey, I know I make the crippled thing look good, but you don't need to go trying to follow my fashion statement, kiddo."

It takes a minute to bring him out of his own head.

Shift himself into something approximating his normal state of mind.

"I don't know. It's such a chore, running everywhere all the time. Might be nice to take a load off for a while..."

"You're just mad because I was calling myself the fastest man in a wheelchair."

"You're just mad because you know Babs would smoke you in the 50-yard dash."

By Rick's bed, head bowed, sits another speedster. Like the others, she was banged up in the fighting. Unlike many, however, she suffered little more than bruising (admittedly heavy, but bruises heal), a bloodied nose, and a scarred ego. She's therefore helped with Watchtower repairs where she can, working actively toward getting the League back on its feet. Better that than remembering the fights, Rick's attacks...the crack of Wally's bone under her foot.

God, she's tired.

Wally sits up, with a bit of discomfort. Watching Jesse hover over Rick. Looking at those bruises, the blood stained on her face.

His stomach drops.

And he finds himself suddenly claustrophobic.

He closes his eyes and tries to focus. Gritting his teeth as he starts the process of healing his legs.

Tears streak down his face at the pain.

By the end of the healing, the blue eyes of the blonde speedster are no longer on the floor but rather on her boyfriend...and his tears are not the only ones shed.

A strong bit of heavy breathing as he comes out of it

Then, he wipes his eyes, dangling his new legs over the edge of the table, looking haggard and beaten.

Looking up to see her tears is just one more knife in the gut.

His throat constricts as he tests out the legs. Gingerly.

He doesn't have the words.

They lie that way for several hours. Recuperating after the massive slugfest.

Rick's eyes slowly start to open, to a mass of soft blonde hair.

It's... familiar, too. Even through all of the blood, sweat and tears they've been through... it still has her scent.

A brief test of his limbs, and his positioning, lets him know that, somehow, he's spooning with Jesse Chambers.

Wonderful thing to wake up to.

He lies still. Just listening to her breathe. Feeling her body expand and contract beneath his arm.

He realizes sharply just how much he's missed her.

She hasn't moved, not a bit, but when his breathing changes, her eyes flicker, then open, and the hand on his chest slides a bit. Her inquiry about his health isn't that lucid.

He likes the slide.

Her morning voice. That sweet little rasp. His finger is stroking her cheek before he even realizes it.

"I'm okay. Thanks entirely to you."

"I should've warned you," she mumbles blearily. "I'm so sorry, Rick. I'm...."

The exhaustion can't help her mood, and she needs food desperately, but the tears take her by surprise anyways. Her face turns against his shoulder, and she falls silent.
