My life in WoW

Oct 13, 2006 04:48

As some of you know, this past winter I started to play World of Warcraft (WoW) because one of my friends introduced me to it. It is an amazing game that is played very cooperatively. I played mostly at night after teaching and after several months got my toon (character I play in WoW) to level 60 (the top level in the game as of right now). I ( Read more... )

MMO's are their own place of existenance - weaving in and out of the real universe. I was shocked to find out how hurt people are when things like this happen. I was somewhat startled by how I felt.

The guild that the jerk created took all of the loot from our former guild - and didn't offer anything to members that were not asked to join (or who told them where to stick it), so there are quite a few people who feel they made off with the bank.

And you are correct about Ouroboros - our GM picked it for that very reason of renewal. Thankfully, we are an older guild - the officers are all 38, and most of our guildies are in their late 320-mid 40s. We are striving to be a small guild that is built to succeed in the expansion.

What's your toon on Steamwheedle?

It makes sense how people can get a little upset by things. It's an emotional investment and a general trust issue, but it's also a very real investment in time. Peoples time is precious and disrespecting it or making it worthless is something folks probably should take personally. All that in moderation of course, the extreme drama we often see is completely uncalled for ( ... )

It's amazing to me that the people who cheat on a significant other never take the time to think about allllll the consequences and implications. But good for you! We have been playing Horizons for more than a year and it was wonderful. We had a great solid guild and we were all "family" in so many ways. Then Horizons got sold from Tulga to another company...who in one fell swoop drove away 2/3s of our guild and most other players in general. We're trying to be patient and give them time to see if they get their acts together. Meanwhile we miss playing (though we never have that much time anyway) and we're considering our options - We worry that WoW is "too big"...but the more people I hear talk about it the more interesting it certainly sounds.

The trick with WoW is getting on the right server. Alleria is an 'old' server - meaning its been up and running since day one. It's heavily populated, but once you find a guild where you fit -that makes it a much smaller world.

I truly don't think these people had a clue - or possibly cared -that they were messing with people's feelings. I weathered the storm fine, cause I knew we had already created a safe place, but a lot of people are still walking around devistated - and truth be known, I have problems being friendly with those that chose to go to the new guild. I can only believe that most of them don't have a clue what happened.

I've never heard of/played Horizons -- what is it?

It is fantasy based; the biggest change (and draw) for most people is that one of the races you can play is Dragon. I'm a fiend. Tim is a dragon and loves it. :-)

What's amazing is how many RL friends we meet from online games. I have met about 20 of my fellow City Of Heroes players and hang out with at least 5-6 of them fairly regularly.

That's cool! I have a friend whose family plays City of Heroes so they can spend time together even though they live fairly far apart.

MMORPGs have definately changed how we can communicate and interact. I've made several really good friends on WoW. Teamspeak doesn't hurt either! :)
