overly-thinky thoughts about not so thinky things

Onemanga is being shut down. I could just...cry. There are quite a few titles I follow that haven't been released very far in English, and I especially like just going back and re-reading the manga on the site when I'm bored or feel like reading my favorite part. Fuck those greedy corporate douchebags right up the ear. It makes me want to never ( Read more... )

I found Host Club and Addicted to Curry for you.

As for Legend of Korra, the new world seems good, Korra herself, I don't know, but I'm against it as a sequel. I don't know if the dynamic is right. As for Aang's son... I'm not optimistic. If they creators had behaved themselves before, I'd be okay, but I feel like they're not going to behave themselves in flashbacks. It's not the reason I'm sure, but I don't trust them not to abuse it. I kind of don't want to support them after they were pretty nasty to their fandom. Also I've heard that a lot of the staff is different, so I don't know.

Thanks for the links!

I'm willing to trust them to write Korra, since the creators seem to be fine with writing female characters. With any other show, I'd be worried about her being tokenized as 'the girl', something I am a bit nervous about still. However, the writing staff is most likely the same they got to write third season, which means I might have to look forward to slipshod pacing and poorly-planned filler episodes. I don't know.

Stop Tazmo has a lot of stuff so it might have anything else you're looking for too! (I didn't see Skip Beat, but who knows if it will go up later or if there's something else.)

I heard it was generally different staff, but who knows if that's good or bad. They are decent at writing female characters outside of romance, so I'd trust them with that. It's more the pacing and interconnections I'm worried about and them generally dicking around.

I'm so sad about Onemanga. As someone who can literally not buy manga because I'm seriously too poor to do it, this just...ugh. I can understand the licensed stuff. Really. But what about, like you said, the stuff that hasn't been brought over? This is so sad.

And as for the Legend of Korra, I'm with you on everything. Excited as hell to see a female lead and the steampunk and everything...but sequels are so hard to do well. :(

Also with you on the fandom thing. I was one of the people who shipped, but I just didn't care about shipping enough to argue about it. I actually really do want to see Aang and Katara's son because I do think it'd be interesting to see what he's like. But it's just...the crazy Zutarians. They're kind of dimming this for me.

I think that unlicensed scans actually increase purchase potential, mainly because it opens up fanbases and makes people aware of and interested in the series that these companies are selling. It's really not much different from people going to bookstores, reading the manga, and not buying them, so I don't see the problem. Although I shouldn't say that, because some manga gets sold in tight plastic covers. God forbid they start doing that to novels, I will rip out my hair. The cursory inspection of a book is a big part of the buying process for me.

I admit, Tenzin doesn't interest me as much as what they might have done with the airbenders. I hope we see population growth and steampunk air masters.

I have positive feelings for this sequel. I'm alright with the Kataang implications (just reproducing once doesn't necessarily mean they had to spend their whole life together offscreen) and I'd actually really hope to be able to see glimpses of the cast as old folks. Kickass-old-lady!Katara and Toph would make my life.

Kickas old lady Toph and Katara would truly be profoundly wonderful, especially if Katara's the Southern Tribe version of Pakku and hasn't spent her whole life in the air temples.

Like I told you last night, I've high hopes, which might be a bad thing :\ But I'm really hoping they pull it off well and I'm confused about the wank with Zutara...I mean, they understand that it might have been a neat ship (I don't mind it), but really?

That's like getting upset at every show that has canon couples you don't agree with I suppose. I don't know, the wank confuses me, 'cause it seems like deliberate wank for the sake of it.

Onemanga, I haven't been there in a good two years. I never read manga anymore, though I keep meaning to read Ouran High and I really wanted to read Fruit Baskets...oh well.

I can understand some of it, to a degree- the romance in the show was handled really clumsily on the female's side for Katara and Mai, and Mike and Bryan really didn't treat the fans who liked the ship very well. But being upset that your noncanon ship isn't canon in the sequel? That I don't understand.

Ouran is really good, despite the one horrible moment of awfulness. I just skip it and pretend it never happened.
