Onemanga is being shut down. I could just...cry. There are quite a few titles I follow that haven't been released very far in English, and I especially like just going back and re-reading the manga on the site when I'm bored or feel like reading my favorite part. Fuck those greedy corporate douchebags right up the ear. It makes me want to never purchase manga in hard copy out of pure spite. At least FMA concluded before this fuckery, but now I have no idea where I'm going to go for Skip Beat or Addicted to Curry or Ouran Host Club, if it ever decides to update.
Meanwhile, I'm of mixed feelings about Legend of Korra. On one hand, I am in love with Korra as she is shown, in love with the titular character being a brash, headstrong female Avatar. I love the idea of the steampunk plot with an anti-bender rebellion as well. Part of the problem is my own internal future fanon for everyone, and how the series will mess with that (irrational fan thoughts, I know.) Also, sequels, even sequels as original as this one promises to be, can be notoriously horrible. I've had too much of ATLA bullshit from the movie and the poorly-plotted third season, I don't want to watch this new series with the joyful expectations I get for new ATLA material and come away depressed. The original was so good, it raises my standards up too high.
Also, there's the fandom. Already the Zutara portion of the fanbase are erupting into wank because Tenzin is the son of Aang and Katara. To them I say: duh. I'm a Zuko/Katara shipper myself, and I saw this coming. The creators were far too invested in Aang and Katara's relationship to do anything else. Accusing them of making this series just to cement Kataang even further is just...ludicrous. No, really. Ludicrous. This is a whole new series with a whole new plot and a whole new cast of characters, I seriously doubt they created it all with a mind to shove Zutara fans noses in the dirt. If they wanted to do that, they could just create a continuation and show Katara and Aang's romance progressing and MAYBE SHOWING US ZUKO'S MOM. THAT WOULD BE NICE. *clears throat*
So, I'm on the fence about this one. I like to keep my Avatar bubble nice and sacred and clean, but I'm also interested, despite myself, about the new series. I think it's far too early to make a judgment, positive or negative, about the series.
