So, I am back from NYC.
I LOVED WICKED. KYAAAAAAAA! WICKED WAS SO AMAZING. IT WAS EVERYTHING I DREAMED IT WOULD BE AND MORE, OMG I LOVE THIS SHOW.
I was initially worried because all this time I've been listening to the recording of the original cast, and I was wondering if it would completely throw me off of the cast I'd be watching, but it didn't! Or rather, I kept it in mind while watching it, and occasionally I'd be comparing the two and liking the original cast's interpretation much more, but for the most part, I was completely involved. I loved this Elphaba. (Played by Mandy Gonzalez.) She has a much deeper voice than Idina, but I really enjoyed it, especially for songs like 'Defying Gravity' and 'The Wizard and I'. She totally blew me away!
The Gershwin Theatre was all set up with a giant map of Oz, and signs over the door (inside) that said: "You are now leaving Oz, please drive or fly carefully," which was pretty funny. Once you got upstairs, there was a nice, open area complete with a bar at which, I supposed and was right, you were supposed to order refreshments during intermission. They had a bunch of Wicked-themed cocktails that I, regrettably, didn't try. And then there were the little gift stands, at which they sold t-shirts and paraphernalia and Madame Morrible dolls from Madame Alexander, I shit you not. They were one hundred fifty-something, but they looked awesome. And they ran out of green OZ sunglasses, which honestly would have come in useful on that day, because it was around 100 degrees outside and I was melting just walking around in it. I got a program & CD set that came with a poster, and also a green Wicked t-shirt. WHICH I WILL NEVER WASH AGAIN. (Joking.)
It has been a day since I've seen it, and I am STILL babbling about this musical, dammit. *sigh* Would watch again, five hundred times.
