Leonard knew Jim was upset. In fact, the last few weeks had been painful for him, on the Enterprise. Trying to get his friend to speak to him properly, instead being blocked out. He knew it was his way of dealing, but Leonard was upset too. He was losing his friend - his best friend and it bothered him
( ... )
When her office door slid open, and Leonard stepped in, Christa smiled. her smile turned into a grin when he spoke and she softly nodded. "I believe they did, Doctor," she said.
Once the door had slid shut behind him, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his body. Christa knew things couldn't be easy for him, and she wanted to be there for him. "How are you feeling?" she asked.
Leonard took a little step forwards to meet her, his arms slipping around her to hold her to him. Some of his anxiety seemed to melt away, just from holding her. Being with her usually had a calming effect on him, and it was working a charm right now.
"I'm feelin' okay," and in that very moment, he was.
She continued to hold him, her hand running up and down his back. After a moment, Christa pulled back and softly kissed his lips. "Were you okay doing the transport?" she asked with concern. "Do you want anything to drink? Maybe some water?"
He laced their fingers together with a warm smile, shifting closer so their arms were touching with each slight swing as they moved.
"Because you've got good taste. An' I tend ta go for what I know," which was actually a true, and valid point, he felt. His first pick would always be somewhere that offered a Southern meal or two for him to consider. He liked his home comforts, even when not home.
Christa softly laughed and gave him a kiss before releasing his hand. "I'll make us some sandwiches when we get back to the house," she said before stepping back.
She was almost tempted to open the passenger side door for him, just to be funny, but decided not to make him feel less manly. Instead, she went to the driver's side and got in. Once she was settled, she pulled her seat belt over her, and started the car.
"Sounds perfect," he didn't care what they ate. So long as they did so his stomach could fully settle, and he could be near to her, he was satisfied. The more they did together, the less time he had to mull over all bothered him currently.
He settled into the car, belted up and relaxed back, giving her a sideways glance from the passenger seat. "Nice lil' car."
"Thank you. I figured I needed one when I came back to Earth," Christa said as she pulled out of the parking lot and started toward her house. "Guess I'll have to find someone to buy it before we leave on the Galaway."
It was going to be strange, not being on Earth anyone, but she was also looking forward to it. "Is there anything you need to get? I'm taking tomorrow off to do some shopping so if you want to come with me you can."
Christa grinned and returned the kiss, her hand moving up to rest on his shoulder. When they pulled apart, she smiled at him. "If I take you up to my room to help with the boxes, do you think you can behave and keep your hands to yourself?" she asked with a laugh.
With her hand in his, Christa went up the stairs and to her bedroom. When she opened the closet door, she gave him a sheepish look at all the boxes crammed into it. "I guess I thought if I unpacked, that meant I was giving up on ever having another ship," she said with a shrug.
Smiling, Christa stood from the couch. "I'll start the water and come back for you once the tub is filled," she said as she gave him a kiss before walking away.
"All right darlin'," he watched her rise up and walk away, eyes fixing on her all the while. But then he was alone again. Alone with his thoughts, and he settled back on the couch with his eyes closed.
It didn't take long for the tub to fill with water. Once it had, she got a couple towels out and sat them on the counter before going downstairs again. "The bath's ready," she told him.
Christa placed her hands on his and laced their fingers together. "I know leaving Jim wasn't easy but I promise to make sure you won't regret it," she told him.
Even thought they were both very naked and very wet, sex was the last thing on Christa's mind. She wanted to enjoy these moments of solace with him since she knew their lives were about to become quite hectic with the Galaway's upcoming launch.
"If I didn't run the risk of becoming a prune, I'd stay in here for the rest of the day," she happily sighed.
