Chapter 13: A Coronation and A Vision

"Congratulations again on your coronation, Jin." Koki, a prince from Crescent, a neighboring Kingdom, tapped Jin's shoulder. He came to attend King Jin's coronation ceremony almost a week ago along with other royals and nobles from different kingdoms. Jin had always been his friend although they didn't meet often so he had extended his stay in Azure for week instead. "Hey, it's customary to talk to your guest."

"Oh I'm sorry. What were you saying?"

Koki grinned. "He's the reason you seem distracted?" He cocked his head towards the man Jin couldn't seem to get his eyes off ever since the ceremony.

At the moment, the subject of their conversation was playing with two kids in a garden. He was laughing as he twirled the giggling girl around while the younger boy was near them, clapping and squealing.

It was a warm sight to see, actually. And the man was stunning in his white robe. He was art in himself. You could look at him for hours and you'd never get tired.

But Koki recognized the look on Jin's eyes. It was not the awestruck look everyone else who attended Jin's coronation had when they had seen the beautiful man for the first time.

There was awe in Jin's eyes alright. But more than that, there was love. The new King was in love was in love with a man, who also happened to be a Whisperer.

How interesting.

"How could I not be distracted? I think I gained a lot of rivals in just one day. Did you see the way a lot of those nobles looked at him? Heck, I saw the way you looked at him." Jin glared at him.

"Jin, your lover is easily the most gorgeous person in the ceremony, not to mention a lot are curious of his race. Naturally, he had turned heads and I mean no disrespect in saying this but you can't prevent anyone from admiring such exquisite beauty," he patiently explained to the obviously possessive King.

"Admiring, I would allow. But if someone dare touch him, that person won't see the light of day," the King threatened.

"Jin!" A musical voice interrupted in a disapproving manner.

Koki saw the beautiful man walking towards them, the little boy in his arms and the young girl following him. He stopped midway as if in an afterthought and put the boy in his arms down gently beside the girl. He then whispered something to the two children before straightening and continuing his walk towards the two royals. The children had already walked away, skipping.

"I'm sorry your highness, our King is a little out of line," the Whisperer said as soon as he reached them.

"What? I was only stating a fact." Jin stubbornly crossed his arms.

Koki ignored the Prince and addressed the Whisperer instead. "I'm Prince Koki. It may not look like it but I'm this King's friend," he jutted his hand at Jin's direction. "So I'm used to him. Anyway, I don't think I know your name," he pondered.

"My name is Kazuya, your highness."

"Pleasure to meet you, Kazuya. Would you like to come see my Kingdom? Crescent could use some lovely person around."

It was a sincere request. The Kingdom of Crescent could really use a beautiful person like Kazuya to liven up the place. With the death of Koki's little sister, leaving behind him and his two older brothers, the Palace really lacked grace that Kazuya easily possessed.

On the other hand, Koki already knew Kazuya belonged in Azure and with Jin. Anyone who would observe them could easily see that those two were perfect for each other. He only voiced the request out loud to rile Jin up. His friend's jealous antics never ceizes to amuse Koki.

Just as Koki predicted, Jin pushed him away from Kazuya and gave off a sound that was close to a growl. "You are in my territory, Koki. And I do not take lightly someone who tries to take away what's mine."

Koki simply watched as Jin turned to Kazuya as if Kazuya called him. Then Jin and Kazuya stared at each other and Koki could tell they were having a non-verbal conversation if the intense look was anything to go by.

After a while, Jin huffed. "Fine! But only if he swears he was only kidding."

Kazuya turned to Koki and gave him a sharp look. You will tell Jin you were only kidding like I knew you were because he's seconds from having you hanged and I do not want a dead prince on his conscience.

Koki secretly shivered. Kazuya was scary when pissed off. He raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright! I was only kidding, Jin. Heavens, can't you recognize a joke?"

Kazuya's eyes regained it's warmth. "I'm sorry. Our...relationship makes it hard for Jin to control his emotions." He turned to Jin and kissed his cheek. "I'll just check on the children."

Kazuya left and Jin followed him with his eyes until he was out of sight.

"You've got it bad." Koki laughed at the love-struck expression on Jin's face. "So when's the wedding?"

"That's just it!" Panic invaded Jin's form. "I had a lot on my mind, a lot to do. There was the incident with Ryo, then of course the coronation and-"

"Calm down Jin!" Koki interrupted the his friend's ramblings. "Basically, what you're saying is that you haven't even proposed yet?"

"I don't know how to!" Jin said with a whine rivaling that of a 5 year old.

"You're not acting like a King, you know."

"Give me a break! I just got crowned. Besides, this issue is clearly out of my job description."

"Why don't you ask your father for advice?" He asked. Older people seemed to have more experience on those things.

"I can't. He and mother went away for a trip the day after I was crowned. Something about a well-deserved and much delayed vacation."

"Is that so? Well, you know Kazuya best so you should know what he likes right? I think you should start from there."

Koki shrugged and then left Jin to his own thoughts.

------------------

"What's wrong, Kazu nii-chan?"

Kazuya smiled at Ami, the girl who informed the former King of what happened to Xenon. He had asked Jin if they could let the two kids stay in the Palace and thankfully, he agreed. Since then, he had come to love the children like his own siblings.

"Nothing Ami," he reassured the girl.

"I know there's something wrong. Don't you trust me, nii-chan?"

"Of course I do." He really does trust the girl. Despite loosing both her parents in an early age, becoming a servant years later after her foster parents died, and having to take care of her younger brother Ruki, Ami had grown to be a fine young lady. She was smart and had integrity. She was quick to learn and adapt too. "But some things are better discussed between the people involved."

The truth was, Kazuya was puzzled by Jin's emotions. These few days, Jin's feelings had alternated from excitement to worry to apprehension and back to excitement again. He didn't understand what was causing those roller coaster of emotions in his lover's heart. He tried asking Jin but he just changes the topic and refuses to admit anything every time.

"If you say so. But you do know nii-chan that Ruki and I will always stand by your side, right?" She seemed to think for awhile before adding, "And King Jin's side too since you love him."

Kazuya coughed. He forgot that Ami was perceptive too. He and Jin had never told the two kids what their relationship was and he had forbidden Jin from kissing or embracing him in front of them. It was all an attempt to preserve the innocent minds of Ami and Ruki.

Turns out they shouldn't have bothered.

"I'm not denying anything but how do you know that?" Ruki was sleeping on his lap so they could freely talk about more mature topics.

"The look in yours and King Jin's eyes. Our parents used to look at each other the same way." Ami was smiling but her eyes were clouded with sadness.

Kazuya stroked the girl's hair. "I'm sorry about your parents."

"It's alright. I've long accepted the fact that they're gone. I'm just glad that I still have Ruki thanks to the Whisperer that saved us."

"About that..." Kazuya hesitated. "I've been meaning to ask you of that Whisperer. There's just so few of us scattered all over the world so any news of my kind interests me."

"Hmm, what I do remember is that she was very beautiful, dazzling even. She had long black hair that reached up to her hips and she was petite. Oh and green lights coiled around her the same way blue lights coiled on you the day you saved us."

"Green lights?"

It couldn't be...

He knew one female Whisperer whose special lights were green.

Mint, his grandmother on his mother's side. He should call her 'grandmother' but it hardly fit her outer appearance. Mint had stopped aging when she looked like a 30 year old woman.

But it couldn't be her. She said she wouldn't step even one foot on Azure again after she lost three of her children to the enraged humans.

If it was her, however, that would mean that at least one of Kazuya's relatives had survived. That relative is in fact, his favorite.

Mint was a very kind-hearted lady. Like most of the Whisperers she was wary of humans but she worries for them too. She had often told Kazuya when he was young that the humans were not evil, they were simply confused. She believed in the goodness of the humans' hearts.

She was also the one from whom Kazuya learned the kiss of life.

"Someday, someone important to you is going to need it. And it will seem like a coincidence. When that time comes, your blue dust will affirm it."

It's strange how Kazuya only remembered his grandmother's words now.

Me and Jin...Mint was referring to that...It was a vision...

Sometimes, a Whisperer is able to see visions. Their family is one of those few vision-seeing Whisperers. He only hoped that the rest of his family is still alive.

"She also told us that someday, someone is going to save Ruki and me from harm. She was right because we met you."

"I just acted on instinct. You give me too much credit." He shook his head.

"King Jin!" Ami exclaimed as she looked behind Kazuya. She nudged her brother who rubbed his eyes sleepily before bowing respectfully.

"Ami, Ruki, you both don't have to be so formal around me. Especially since you'll be part of the royal family soon." Jin said as he walked towards them.

"Jin, what are you saying?" Kazuya asked. Beside him, Ami was just as confused while Ruki dropped back to sleep on Kazuya's lap.

"It was supposed to be a surprise but I can't have Ami and Ruki tiptoeing around me much longer. Ami, I'm going to formally adopt you and Ruki. But of course, you can say no and I'll respect it."

Ami glanced at Kazuya.

"It's alright Ami. You and Ruki need a family that will take care of you. Jin can provide that."

"But you...won't leave us right nii-chan? You'll be our family too? You and King Jin?"

Kazuya looked at Ami and also at Jin. They, together with Ruki, Yamapi and Yamapi's mother, are humans that he had met in coincidence but he had grown to love. There was no way he was going to change that anytime soon.

"Of course I'll stay."

He was rewarded with two wide grins and one sleepy sigh.
