Hubby just called - apparently, Maeve is up in arms about something. She grabbed up her purse, and headed for the front door, saying, "Bye, Daddy!". He asked where she was going, and she said, "I'm going to see the Mayor!". Maeve helped me make pancakes yesterday, and it was so funny! I was letting her dump all the ingredients into the bowl, and she got so excited. We called my mom, and she told her, "I made pancakes, gramma!". Maeve came up to me yesterday afternoon, wearing one of the lanyards I'd gotten at Gen Con. She pressed the metal clip to my chest, and said, "Take a deep breath, and calm down.", in a very serious voice. She told me the lanyard was her stethoscope, and she's a doctor. We are having a fabulous Mariachi band here at the library as I type, and Maeve is in the auditorium just rivited to the music!! She loves music so much, and she's dancing away - I can see her from here. I love the fact she's getting so much exposure to live music and other arts - dance, etc. I'm going to go peek in at her again - it's so much ( Read more... )

I'm so glad I sold Maeve's Baby Einstein DVDs, and that I've kept her count of electronic toys down. It turns out all these "brainy" toys actually have the OPPOSITE effect on kids. We keep her TV limited to 30 minutes a day, and some days, she doesn't even ask for it. I'm glad we gave her blocks, stuffed animals, toy dishes, and books. She's ( Read more... )

We were at the grocery store last night, and got Maeve a box of Teddy Grahams. She usually likes to carry something while she's in the cart, so Daddy gave her the TG box to hold. I was talking to a few of the mothers in my mothers group, and the one woman there who's a nanny, and I mentioned I was glad we had decided to wait to have another baby. The nanny told me, in her experience, most of the time it is better to wait until the first child is over three to have the next one. That way, the first one gets the attention ( Read more... )
