I'm so glad I sold Maeve's Baby Einstein DVDs, and that I've kept her count of electronic toys down. It turns out all these "brainy" toys actually have the OPPOSITE effect on kids. We keep her TV limited to 30 minutes a day, and some days, she doesn't even ask for it. I'm glad we gave her blocks, stuffed animals, toy dishes, and books. She's all the better for it, and her imagination has taken off.
I've seen those kids who were raised on "smart" toys, and a plethora of electronic gadgets. They sit and wait to be entertained, and have no idea what to do with a simple teddy bear. Poor things. They get bored easy. I've yet to see Maeve bored for longer than about 2 minutes. And, when I'm cooking, I give her a bowl and a spoon, and she "cooks" along with me.
Now...what the hell do I do with that stupid Talking Elmo my mother in law sent??? :P
