A Walk in the Neighborhood, April 15, 2012

I found this poor fella in the road when I went for a walk in my neighborhood about a week ago.   Just around the corner from where I found the squished snake, I had previously seen two owls in a tree top and about another block away from that, I've seen a hawk atop a telephone pole.   I suspect that if a car had not killed the little snake, the  ( Read more... )

Maybe that's just the snake's shed skin?

Omigosh! I hadn't thought of that! I wonder why I didn't think of that!? Oh my; I've become "cityfied." I remember wondering why there were no squished out guts nearby and I'm embarrassed to realize that answer hadn't even occurred to me. Well, well, now I'm hoping the large birds get him before he becomes a large snake! Hahaaaaaaaaaaa! Haven't I changed my tune!?

They better get Snakie before he becomes a big snake, or he might get them: Bye Bye Birdy!

Lots of dead snakes on the roads here. Makes me sad always. I've stopped traffic to let a snake cross the road on more than one occasion, even for rattlesnakes!

Yes! All creatures are here for a purpose and help to balance the ecosystem! Roaches and mosquitoes are about the only creatures I will kill with no qualms! Oh, wait a minute. I've put out rat poison before. I stand corrected. I am an eco-hypocrite!

Ha,ha! As soon as I looked at your picture, before I read duccio's comment, I thought that was just the shed skin of the snake, too. I'm sure it is. It's hard to tell from its skin what kind it is, but most likely a harmless one.

I also suspect it is of a harmless variety, Kathy. If there were any sitings of dangerous snakes in this neighborhood, there would be an all-out witch hunt for them due to the amount of children, joggers and tourists that trot through here on a daily basis. I have pics I haven't posted yet of the annual Azalea Trails event they had in March. You'll see what I mean!

I love your pictures and how you see things. Can't wait to see what's next . . . and the Azalea Trails. You sound like me, though, as I've got such a backlog of photos to show, it is overwhelming.
