Veles 002 [day] [video]

May 09, 2011 11:31

[Veles has been in Promenade for a while now, long enough to know that barring Lioriley, he hated pretty much everyone here.  Loud, ungrateful, rude - just the tip of the iceberg, he could really go on for years about his distaste but dragons love knowledge and he'd like to know about other worlds and what they have.

Just don't ask how a dragon can ( Read more... )

They're real. You just have to know where to look.

A wolf that speaks? What tales would you have to tell I wonder.

I've got a lot of family history to share.

As for dragons... kind of depends on your definition. My brother's been called a dragon, but he's really more of a giant sea snake.

I would be more than happy to hear it.

You would think that even a human would be able to tell the difference between a snake and a dragon - snakes are usually lacking in limbs after all. And wings. But we dragons do hunt at sea so I would perhaps understand if it came from the ramblings of drunken sailors.

There were a lot in Vale before the war. Only a few stayed behind, from what I can remember.

What was the cause of the war in the Vale? The dragons of Travrra do not go to war as such.

Humans. They wanted more then what we gave them. What we both worked for. When greed overcame their gratefulness a lot of them began to fight for things. A lot of people began dying. And if we tried to interfere or calm them down, they would kill us, too.

So, we left. Most of the elders have given up on humans ever redeeming themselves.

[He snorts because humans? Really? How weak these dragons of these dragons of the Vale must be to allow humans to drive them from their home.]

The humans should pose no threat to dragons; it would take great numbers of them to fell a single dragon or drive them to do something against their will, even the whole race would not be enough to drive the dragons from Travrra or indeed from any land they deigned to call their home. Humans are petty creatures, driven by their emotions rather than reason it is why they should never simply be given things. They must work for it. They must earn it. They must undergo trials to prove they are worthy of it.

Your elders were fools for ever believing them able or worthy of redemption even for a moment.

[Oh Jesus. Why did he not know there were dragons here.]

Ah... Ain't never seen 'em for myself, but I hear there's dragons up in the mountains still. Y'know, where there, ah...ain't no humans.

[Because you've been too busy fightin' round the world. Because Veles keeps away from all of you because you're stupid and petty and irritating.]

Where I am from we populate an island [he moves to allow more of the chunk of Travrra that came with him to be seen] to keep away from the other races although they do seek us out from time to time.

And well, consider this your first time laying eyes upon one of our kind.

[Yeah, funny story about that... He gives a cautious nod and swallows before answering.]

I certainly do. [He hasn't encountered any dragons before, and for good reason-only a damn fool would try rustling them up back home.] And, ah... Just why might they be seekin' you out?

[Keep a civil tongue in your head and there is no need to be nervous.]

For knowledge. We dragons know a great many things and we possess magic too, magic we can pass on should they prove themselves worthy of the knowledge.

[Oh, she remembers him! And she's thinking very carefully about his question.]

Well... There are these creatures back home that some people might call dragons, since they're like big lizards and they can fly, but they're not really very smart and they can't talk. At least I don't think they can...but they only have four limbs anyway, so I guess they're more like wyverns than real dragons.

[The polite one is back. He's glad to see that; manners are a rare thing in this place.]

The variety of things that fall under this name are fascinating but it is saddening to know that so few of us are given the gift of speech in these worlds.

I've heard about dragons from other worlds, though, and they can all talk! At least when they want to...I think. But yeah, the stories from those other worlds sound a lot more like what you were talking about.

Was it in your own world that you heard such things or was it here? Either way it is still something good for me to make note of. It is simply that it is rare for us to be found by the realms of the other races of our world which is why I ask.

Would you know any of these stories?

[He likes stories. Well, stories that aren't the stories Lioriley tells him with the simplistic happy endings abot marrying a pretty girl dragon.]
