Veles 002 [day] [video]

May 09, 2011 11:31

[Veles has been in Promenade for a while now, long enough to know that barring Lioriley, he hated pretty much everyone here.  Loud, ungrateful, rude - just the tip of the iceberg, he could really go on for years about his distaste but dragons love knowledge and he'd like to know about other worlds and what they have.

Just don't ask how a dragon can ( Read more... )

They're real. You just have to know where to look.

A wolf that speaks? What tales would you have to tell I wonder.

I've got a lot of family history to share.

As for dragons... kind of depends on your definition. My brother's been called a dragon, but he's really more of a giant sea snake.

I would be more than happy to hear it.

You would think that even a human would be able to tell the difference between a snake and a dragon - snakes are usually lacking in limbs after all. And wings. But we dragons do hunt at sea so I would perhaps understand if it came from the ramblings of drunken sailors.

Well, I'll tell you about the dragons first, and then it can be the story of how my family is completely insane.

Oh yeah, lots of drunks. You have no idea.

Let's see... There was Fáfnir, who was actually born a dwarf but turned into a dragon after killing his father and taking cursed treasure. See, his brother was an otter during the day, but three gods -- including my father, nice guy that he is -- killed him and were all "oh look at us we have a dead otter". The king and his sons got mad, understandably, and so they made Loki -- that's my father -- go collect a ransom and put it in the pelt. Dad's a Trickster, so he put cursed treasure that will bring death to the owner inside and gave that to them. Fáfnir killed his father to take the treasure for himself and ran off into the wilderness with it where his greed and general bad temper turned him into a dragon.

[ A pause here. You still with him, Veles? ]

[Veles is very much with you Fenrir. This is what he was hoping for; rich folktales and myths and from the source itself. This is what dragons do when they are not debating matters with one another, putting the knowledge seekers through trials and laughing at them or accompanying little dark elf girls on quests.]

Fascinating. If it were possible I would ask if you would wish to visit the chunk of the island that was good enough to be brought here for me but it is miles from the land and the swim would not be easy and I am not sure a wolf would be able to easily sit upon a flying dragon.

[ Now that? That sounds like a challenge, and that makes him grin, at least as much as a wolf can. ]

What direction?

[ He's already up and heading toward the beach. ]

It is far out, a north-easterly direction if you leave from the centre of the beach. It is hard to miss.

I'll be there soon, then. [ Fenrir switches off his portal and, once he's on the beach, wades into the water. Once his paws are having a hard time touching the bottom, he begins to grow, walking forward until he reaches his True size, the size from which his saliva created rivers. With that done, he starts to swim, heading for the island.

Hopefully Veles doesn't mind the smell of wet dog. ]

[Veles makes his way down to the shore of Travrra where the rocks just up like fangs, fitting for an island where dragons roost as they please. He watches the seas and well, he is impressed by this one and waits for him to make it up and onto the island.]

[ Fenrir doesn't bother going back to his usual size this time. If he's going to be having bonding time with a dragon, he might as well be large enough that he doesn't look like a snack.

Pausing to shake the seawater out of his fur, Fenrir pads over, grinning a toothy grin. ]

[Even from looking at him over the PORTAL, Veles knows that magic of some sort has been used because the wolf is far larger than he was at first appearance.

Well met Fenrir, welcome to Travrra. A shame it is not as large and as populated as it should be.

Thanks.

[ Fenrir looks around, inhaling deeply. It may not be as large or as populated as it should be, but he can still smell dragons other than Veles on it from before, as well as the sea creatures he assumes Veles eats for dinner. ]

It's a nice looking island either way.

Far nicer where it belongs and at full size I assure you. But a welcome sight as I evidently do not fit well into the city and I cannot change my size or shape.

[Not that he ever would.]

Shapeshifting runs in the family for me.

[ Another shake to get the excess sea water out. ]
