Veles 002 [day] [video]

May 09, 2011 11:31

[Veles has been in Promenade for a while now, long enough to know that barring Lioriley, he hated pretty much everyone here.  Loud, ungrateful, rude - just the tip of the iceberg, he could really go on for years about his distaste but dragons love knowledge and he'd like to know about other worlds and what they have.

Just don't ask how a dragon can ( Read more... )

There were a lot in Vale before the war. Only a few stayed behind, from what I can remember.

What was the cause of the war in the Vale? The dragons of Travrra do not go to war as such.

Humans. They wanted more then what we gave them. What we both worked for. When greed overcame their gratefulness a lot of them began to fight for things. A lot of people began dying. And if we tried to interfere or calm them down, they would kill us, too.

So, we left. Most of the elders have given up on humans ever redeeming themselves.

[He snorts because humans? Really? How weak these dragons of these dragons of the Vale must be to allow humans to drive them from their home.]

The humans should pose no threat to dragons; it would take great numbers of them to fell a single dragon or drive them to do something against their will, even the whole race would not be enough to drive the dragons from Travrra or indeed from any land they deigned to call their home. Humans are petty creatures, driven by their emotions rather than reason it is why they should never simply be given things. They must work for it. They must earn it. They must undergo trials to prove they are worthy of it.

Your elders were fools for ever believing them able or worthy of redemption even for a moment.

You'd be surprised. We are powerful, but we don't cause conflict or fight if we can help it. We've spent centuries working together and learning from each other, so going and suddenly rampaging against them would only make things worse.

They weren't given. We both worked together to earn them. Our ways may be different but we're not that foolish or slow. There is no point in getting something unless you work to achieve it.

[That earns a pause from her as she holds her tongue in order to keep herself from yelling at him.]

My elders may not earn your respect but they have earned mine. Their choices, including to establish a good communication and diplomacy with the humans, may not be something you approve of, but it's something I agree with and cannot see our kind learning without it.

Neither do the dragons of our home. We keep to ourselves as it suits us. Too much noise and violence and pettiness when humans are involved although the other races often fare no better, despite the years they have over the humans.

It is only the humans - but if your world has other races, then apply this to them too - who must work for things. Dragons learn things through study, through debate and discussion, through travel. We do not make swords and take up arms against others. We do not gain knowledge merely to hoarde it greedily but we are selective of those who wish to gain it too because those who are short-lived will forget details, forget the true purpose, seek to bend it to their will and to inflict suffering on others and the world.

I have spoken with Kings of races more times than you have had hot dinners child. I have had discussions with high men and the lowborn and those between both stations of life. Your elders would not last a day in Kilarria with that attitude and you not an hour.

They're human, and mortal. They are bound to make mistakes, just as we can and do. Nothing is perfect ( ... )
