To the vet

So my little furry monster has had a sort of allergy for as long as I've known him but it always went away on it's own. These last weeks he had been licking his fur out again and now developed a wound from it so I made an appointment with the vet.

Good the vet trip went well - I've taken my dogs twice in a short space of time for booster needles and my dogs seemed to have behaved better than usual too.

As someone who's had a lot of animals do you think this lady is sort of trying to push the kittens on to you? I've found people do that me - I've taken in rescues before and some people have seemed to expect me to be grateful that I'm getting a free animal, totally disregarding the fact I now have to look after it (something which they couldn't cope with). Especially when I was younger this was the case. Sort of like 'Oh Iflie you'll be interested because you like cats' kind of attitude?

Hehe I guess dogs are a bit simpler to take because you don't have to get them into a small cage and lift them.

The lady I was talking to was not the one who had the cats but she was spreading the news in case someone wanted kittens. And I love cats ofcourse but I'm not naive about the realities of it. I don't have the energy to deal with a couple of kittens right now anyway. But that doesn't mean I am not curious to see how the other lady will cope with finding homes for them.

And IF I wanted a few kittens it's nice to know their origence well and the breeds they have in them. They may be in part long haired which makes them have lovely characters and easy to handle. I think I'll hear more about it Thursday from the breedinglady herself. They are newborns so it will be weeks until they need homes anyway.

Yeah but you have to get them into the car out of the car and one is running ahead and the other one is trying to run away and then once you're in there you have to try and stop your dog from weeing - although I will never be as bothered about my dog weeing after the previous time when 2 dogs poo'd on the floor! (the vets don't care if they wee, they have a mop bucket for such occassions it's just I'd rather he didn't do it). At least with dogs though up until you get there they think they might go for a walk (because of the leads) but as soon as you get the basket out the cat knows there is pretty much only one outcome!

I was just interested to know if you've had a similar experience because you've taken in strays/rescues before (well it was a kind of stray wasn't it - the neighbours can that decided to stay?)

I did worry about the cat's bathroom needs because he prefers to do it outside and now it's colder he was sleeping inside. And this morning I didn't want to let him out in case he didn't return in time for the vet so i wasn't sure he'd done anything in his litterbox ( ... )

How old is Mickey anyway?

Missy is innocent enough to be tricked into her travel basket easily. All I do is thread her playing rope through the spokes and then pull the end of the thread into the basket from the outside, if you know what I mean. And she's perfectly still in the car because she's basically too scared to do anything.

At the vet she relaxed though, apart from when the vet picked her up to put her on the scales. She does NOT like to be in the air, so she started scratching the vet :p

Mickey in your lap, one kitty on your left, on on your right. Both hands busy petting the kittens. Everyone happy.

He's at least 15 now so he's going to be needing more treatments in the coming years ( ... )

15 is rather a nice age for a cat.

Missy is still young, just over 4 years, so she still has the energy and the need to play. But she's a quiet cat usually, though getting more and more lively still. Last week she didn't even hide under the sofa or my bed when I had people over.

I doubt she'd do well with other cats though. She likes her peace and quiet. She spend most of today lying next to me on the sofa on the blanket, while I was under it (I'm sick at home).

I wish I knew his age more exact but at least I kind of know what I'm in for. He's gotten rather skinny last year so we are going to keep an eye on that, I'm thinking I'll probably go to the vet again in 6 months and have them weigh him to make sure he's staying healthy enough for his age ( ... )
