To the vet

So my little furry monster has had a sort of allergy for as long as I've known him but it always went away on it's own. These last weeks he had been licking his fur out again and now developed a wound from it so I made an appointment with the vet.

I was expecting lots of difficulty but in the end it was okay. He wouldn't be tricked into his travel box with the ham and pushing his butt only made him hiss and claw at me. Luckily him being angry isn't exactly something that means he will want to get away so I didn't have to go look for him. He was still reasonably manageable and interested in the ham I was luring him with.

In the end I had to undo the top of the box and set him into it and then put the top back on quickly. While the home help I have kept him from pushing his way out. Then I took the box onto my lap for the short cartrip to the vet.

My old cats used to make a huge racket in the car and as long as they were in the box. Mewing to protest against the treatment but then at the vet they were rather nice actually. Mickey was quite quiet and instead opted for weird small little creaking mews that you could hardly hear. Kind of like a small old door creaking faintly. I've never heard a cat do that before.

Then at the vets I was all ready to warn him and the assistant about the biting and scratching Mickey uses when he doesn't agree with his treatment but he was like a ragdoll pretty much with them. He'd let them put him on his side even and he was purring. Though the purring isn't always a sign of pleasure he was doing it while the assistant was combing his neck so it may be that he enjoyed it a bit.

Besides at home he purs while biting and clawing me too. But he only started clawing at the vet when he had a bloodletting needle stuck in his paw. I was hoping to find out if his kidneys were okay but because of the fighting he would have to be anesthetized and I thought that was a bit much for now. He got a shot for the allergy so he'll stop itching. And another fleatreatment that may work better than my trusted Spot On.

As some fleas have become resistant against the popular treatments. I don't think Mickey still has fleas but just in case at least now he's superprotected. Just one bite a while ago may have caused his body to keep responding with itchy skin for a long time afterwards. I'm looking forward to him having his full fur back. It's becoming winter so he can grow a very thick underfur again which makes him supercute.

He didn't seem totally upset at the vets, at one point he was totally distracted by some scent on the assistent's labcoat and he was pushing his nose against it as if it was catnip. She seemed puzzled so maybe it was just from some other animal. Cute though. And when he got home I gave him Sheba so he was happy again.

One of my househelp people has had another unexpected litter of kittens. She does breed cats but in this case the catpill didn't work correctly and so the kittens are not pure. She already had another litter that was also mixed so she may have a hard time finding homes for these 6 extra ones. She asks for money normally but she gets less for the not pure breeds. I'm not really looking for new cats and I don't pay for them. All I can promise for a nice couple of kittens is a good home with vet visits, good food and plenty of attention.

The expenses of breeding are the responsibility of the breeder. Otherwise she should have had the cats fixed. Anyways I don't have money issues but two extra kittens is a bit much to risk with an already old cat. This vet visit cost me nearly 50 euros and cats have to go once a year normally. Oh and if I did get a kitten I would get two because I find it is better for their development. But I wasn't planning to do that until Mickey was gone. I only have one lap afterall.
