Feb-brr-ary

Feb 01, 2018 20:34

We started off the year with quite the cold snap. I know I wore the big heavy sweater known as "the sheep" for two straight weeks at work. It warmed up after that, so that I could wear regular clothes (or at least the medium heavy sweater) for a bit…but chilly air blew in today and I'll be wearing the sheep tomorrow. And long underwear. I have not missed wearing long underwear. While I realize February is still winter, and it can be darn chilly, we're already down in the single digits and we have yet to bottom out for the evening. Brr!

It's also the anniversary of the 2011 blizzard, which I saw online elsewhere. Cars buried on Lake Shore Drive! Thundersnow! Guilting my neighbors to come outside and help their mom/wife shovel the snow, since my dad and I were already helping her! Good times. Yeah, I don't miss that weather. I will in fact take the cold over the snow, but in some ways I'd rather take neither. And, truthfully, the blizzard that sticks out more in my mind is the one from 2015, the Super Bowl Blizzard, since it's the day my grandfather came home from rehab--having gone in the hospital in October 2014. It's also that anniversary. What can I say--between my grandmother having to fetch my older uncle (IN A BLIZZARD) so he could spend the night at my grandfather's, and mom and her younger brother having to hunker down at grandma's (and watch the halftime show at Burger King, wherein my grandmother loudly announced, "This is stupid!"), and my younger uncle getting woken up by his father's talking watch speaking incorrect times (which grandma had no idea were even speaking every hour on the hour), it's become family lore.
