You know me, fond of Greek tragedies as I am (which this was): I was and am swept away by the acting, writing and the direction and thought this was one of the best things on tv I've ever seen. Above all, it was a story honest to its chosen themes, and that's why it couldn't end another way. But I can empathize with your need for support.
Oh, I'm not arguing it was great tv. It was. I totally appreciate it for what it was. It just hurts. This is why I can't have too many fandoms at once; I get too emotionally involved, and this ending was absolutely devastating.
Is there a support group somewhere for survivors of TW:CoE?
You mean there were survivors?
But, yeah. Personally, I'm still bitter about the shattered characters and lack of hope at the end of the series (I just don't think you need that, anymore than I buy into purely "happily every after" endings), but I agree that it was amazingly well-written and all the actors were at the top of their game, especially Barrowman.
Come to think of it, a support group would be nice...
It's called Canon Denial Anonymous. Anyone can join. I've been a member since they killed Owen the first time, which made nearly everything I've written that crossed DW with TW into an AU. I'm actually good with that. Just wish they'd stop killing off characters I like. Send them away to work in Hole, but stop killing them off.
One thing I would have liked to see with ep 5 is having Jack ask Steven if he was willing to do this. To give the boy a choice and for the boy to step up and say, yeah, I'll do this if it means saving millions. When Jack took that choice away it reminded me far too much of the Doctor always making decisions without asking Rose. Just another parallel to make Emo Jack and Emo Ten practically the same man.
Doesn't have to be RTD; I understand that James Moran is heavily invested in the future of TW. From what I hear, didn't they say that if the ratings are good enough there will be an S4? My guess is, if they do, there'll be a new team, with Gwen there for continuity. They've certainly got characters to choose from: Lois, Johnson, Andy, possibly even Mickey and Martha if they want to bring those two back. I think it could be done... just without Jack :( Though I'd guess that Jack may drop in for the occasional visit, which would probably suit Barrowman; he could continue playing the character he loves, with even more angst and emo (which he seemed to enjoy in S1), but not be tied to the series, which would allow him to do even more other work.
