I haven't been watching TW: Miracle Day. Part of me really wants to, but part of me is worried RTD's going to yank all our guts out again. CoE was, IMHO, brilliant--but it's not something I'd watch over again. I'm not sure I want to watch a whole series only to be left feeling like hell again, even if it's a really, really good series. The highly talented tardis_stowaway is writing the most amazing fic. Mercy of the Fallen is about a post-CoE Jack meeting the Doctor--but the twist is that the Doctor he meets is a pre-"Rose" Nine, fresh from the Time War. You must go and read the sublime The Time-Traveler's Daughter by speedgeek. I can't even describe it, it's so amazing. Some parts are truly emotionally bruising, but it's worth it by the end--it gives great hope for Alice and Jack after CoE. Consanguinitas by selenak is a character exploration of Alice from CoE, and Jack through her eyes. It's five moments from her life, from her childhood through the year 2000, well before CoE--but this is the relationship she had with Jack in that miniseries. Seriously, go and read. It's selenak's usual quality, which is to say, a cut above.

I've fallen down on my fangirling duties. selenak has written up a wonderful post praising the women of CoE. Spoilers, obviously, and a lot of great discussion in the comments.
