I have a thing for houseplants, I currently have 27 in my apartment and two at work. I like growing things, and I'm fairly good at it. Not all of my plants are doing exceedingly well, but I manage to keep them alive. Last October, I decided that it would be fun to expand my collection to something a bit more exotic. It just feels right. Made a lot of sense too, once I sorted everything out. I'll probably be leaving Seattle for at least the next five years (if not forever) in early August.

(1) Zeroshapiro told me it was snot freezing cold in Troy. She wasn't kidding. The east coast humidity is apparently not as bad as in other places. Troy is right on the Hudson, and I have a suspicion that pressure differences between coastal and upstate New York tends to maintain a fairly steady stream of air blowing through the Hudson river valley ( Read more... )

In the last week, I flew to Davis, CA and Troy, NY. In case you're curious, that's about 8,000 miles of flying. No wonder I'm so tired. It was odd though. I didn't notice any differences from being in different time zones. (1) The "Giant Pillars of Luggage" public art piece in the Sacramento airport is still quite lame. I saw it in 2001 when I visited Sacramento with Brian Sobczak. I wasn't impressed then, and I'm not impressed now.
