R.I.P. Madison [August 2008 - March 2009]

Mar 04, 2009 18:50

Madison died about an hour ago. She had food water and a warm environment. She was walking around like normal this morning and wasn't showing any signs of illness, so this is a shock to me. She was a little under a year old.

Does anyone know anything that can cause hedgehogs to die like that, without warning?

Yeah, but is it unusual to find cancer in hedgies under a year old? She had no external symptoms of anything being wrong. :(

at the presentation i went to on hedgie medicine and care, neoplasia was always the first rule out. consider a necropsy at your vet.

Cancer would be rare at her age and it would be almost unheard of to kill without at least one warning sign. Without a necropy, anything is just a guess. Cardiac issues are my first thought (did she come from a breeder or a pet shop?) along with questions about husbandry.

Without knowing more about her bedding, diet, water source, environment, heat source, etc., it would be hard to say exactly what could have happened.

I'm sorry.
