The Holiday Ball ((Gathering Post))

All in all, the holiday ball comes together beautifully. There's a huge Christmas tree that Laura has nothing to do with - the village has a way of making things appear, and honestly, she's glad she didn't have to decorate it. There is a group of tables on one side of the large ballroom, decorated with deep red and gold and servers waiting around

Jo had originally picked out a different dress for the Christmas party but a last minute change had her now standing in a blue silk and lace dress that she had found just that morning. She had gotten Ramona to help her with her hair since pinning it up wasn't something she was good at but she felt comfortable with the over all results they had gotten.

Studying the ballroom with an interest gaze, she was already holding a glass of champagne, taking a sip here and there as she waited for Alistair or anyone else that she knew.

Blue, coincidentally, was one of Alistair's favorite colors, not that he'd be foolish enough to believe that was the reason Jo had chosen it. Regardless, it was lovely on her, and accentuated her very lovely legs.

"The little round things are very good," he remarked as he sidled up casually (or what he believed was casually) to her side and offered her something from his fairly loaded plate.

Never let it be said that Alistair Theirin didn't appreciate good food.

The fact that he liked blue might have been somewhere in the back of her mind when she picked the dress out but it was also one of her favorite colors as well.

Glancing sideways as Alistair as he appeared at her side, she eyed the plate of food before plucking one of the 'little round things' he had mentioned to her. "Thanks." She commented before taking a bite, looking over the room once more.

Yes, there was a chance some tension was still lingering.

Alistair blew out a breath and lightly tapped the toe of his shoe against the floor, trying not to feel defeated; he was apparently going to be in the dog house for the rest of his life, because he lacked the proper social skills the find his way out of it.

"You look lovely," he tried again with a small, sincere smile.

Leaving Declan to his own devices for a moment, Abby's busy getting herself another glass of champagne (it's good stuff and working with Dr. Tesla's given her a little edge on the wine thing) and admiring the pretty decorations for the ball.

She doesn't usually get to dress up and it's nice not to be an FBI agent or a lab assistant and just be Abby for a little while.

'Formal' wasn't Ramona's thing, usually, but she found a way to make it work for her and picked out a dress unusual enough to suit her personality. And just for the hell of it, she'd done her hair a temporary light chestnut color instead of one of her usual bold wild colors, just to see what it looked like.

It would, of course, be back to pink again next week. That was just how she rolled.

Taking a break from socializing, she gathered up a nice little plate full of hors d'oeuvres, milled around the drink station while she nibbled on a miniature tart and contemplated whether or not she wanted a glass of champagne or a cocktail.

Sam wished her could say that he didn't dress up all that much but he did. Of course, it wasn't really for parties as much as it was dressing up so that he could pretend he was an FBI agent or something but that wasn't the point. The point was that he was used to wearing suits though none of them had ever been as nice as the one he was wearing right now.

The grey suit had been tailored to fit him and it seemed his girlfriend had agreed since she had said something about it being too nice to rip later on. Of course, he probably wouldn't mind if she tried.

The other thing he liked about his suit was that he had gone without a tie of some sort, leaving the top two buttons undone so he could breathe easily as he made his way through the crowd towards Ramona. He was carrying two glasses of champagne, one of which he offered to her when he got close enough.

"Have I said lately how amazing you look?" He smiled.

"Define lately," Ramona quipped, kissing his cheek in thanks for the champagne. She took a sip as she tucked in close to Sam's side and glanced around. "Hell of a party."

"Last few minutes since we left the hotel?" He countered with a chuckle, wrapping an arm around her as she tucked herself against his side. "Yeah, it is. That tree is impressive."

Lucy had decided to play up her best asset--her legs--and go with something short rather than long. Yes, okay, it was winter, but it wasn't like she had to go outside. She went straight from her room to the ballroom, and it was plenty warm in the hotel.

"Holy crap, this is great," she declared with a grin, wrapping her hands around Matt's arm as they walked in together.

"Yeah, for a time warp village in a space bubble they know their consumer based religious holidays." He was studiously not looking at her legs. He wasn't in a suit - he didn't own a suit - but he was wearing a nice pair of black slacks and a dress shirt. That he had a t-shirt under it with a faux Christmas sweater pattern on it was neither here nor there.

"I know, right? This place grabs hundreds of people from dozens of different worlds, and then makes them all celebrate Christmas." She didn't know why, but that was hilarious to her. "Which makes it pretty similar to America now that I think about it."

Beckett was mostly here to keep Castle from noticing that his daughter had a date with a grown man, but that didn't mean she wasn't also keeping an eye on Alexis herself, and you could be sure that the long sparkly skirt of her dress concealed a gun strapped to her thigh.

Not that she'd actually shoot the guy if he tried something she didn't like. Well, not anywhere vital. And she'd threaten him first.

Patting at her hair lightly to make sure the loose updo was still in place, Beckett set her impractically tiny purse down on the table and waited for Castle to get back with their drinks.

Spencer was on his way back from the hors d'oeuvres table when his eyes met Beckett's for a moment. He saw her around the police station sometimes, but they hadn't really had a conversation since they'd worked that strange ritual homicide several months ago. Now he was kind of staring at her, so he supposed he should say something.

"Hi. You look very nice."

He knew women liked to hear that and it wasn't a lie. Spencer just hadn't ever seen Beckett dressed up like this before.

Can't blame him for that, she's has the hotness ;D

Beckett usually tried to dress in a way that didn't call too much attention to the fact that she was a woman (while still indulging her love of great shoes), so she pretty much took the stare for what it was, and smiled.

"Thanks, Spencer. You having fun?"

He glanced around him for a moment.

"What does one do at a party like this? Socialize? Dance? Drink?"

Spencer wasn't great at any of the above.
