The Holiday Ball ((Gathering Post))

Dec 16, 2011 16:59

All in all, the holiday ball comes together beautifully. There's a huge Christmas tree that Laura has nothing to do with - the village has a way of making things appear, and honestly, she's glad she didn't have to decorate it. There is a group of tables on one side of the large ballroom, decorated with deep red and gold and servers waiting around ( Read more... )

Sonya had reservations about attending the winter ball. Even after all this time, she found she couldn't really stand crowds unless on duty: then she recalled only a month ago, she made a promise to 'live', and living meant not holing up in her room.

She entered the ballroom with Ren, dressed in a blue gown, with her ownly jewelry being the sapphire necklace she recieved last christmas. She rarely ever wore jewerly, and considering what Ren told her about Rosalie's usual reactions to people-why not wear it. Her main concern wasn't the necklace, but the straps that did nothing to hide the long, jagged scar along her left shoulder and collar bone, a 'soviener' from her last battle home ( ... )

Margaret was wearing a red gown that was snug up top, but gave plenty of freedom of movement. Despite being seven months along, she still did the little skipping step that was natural to her when she was excited as she approached her friend.

"Oh my goodness, you look wonderful!"

In all honesty, Sonya wasn't that surprised to see Margaret with that much spring in her step, even as far along as she was. Anyone, in her opinion, that could run a nurse ward and call 'twin wrangling' exciting, would never 'not' be an energetic person.

Sonya also couldn't help but smiling at the compliment. "I know, who'd have thought I'd clean up this well."

"And you look great as well, very much into the holiday spirit." Of course, the reality of not needing to 'duck and cover' may also play a part-hard to keep cheery with such a threat over one's head.

"I just love red," She says, giving a twirl, then leans over to murmur, "it's not OD green."

Of course, Mandy has gone to more than her share of parties in her day--but none of them had been anything close to formal, at least not since before she'd gone to London and she'd been barely more than a child then, so she'd been a little hesitant about coming tonight.

The promise of good alcohol (particularly champagne, gods how she'd missed champagne) and an evening with a handsome man had trumped any anxiety she'd had about playing a lady for the night, though. And never let it be said that Mandy didn't know how to play a part when she put her mind to it. She definitely looked nothing like the party girl of her youth tonight.

Believe it or not, Balthazar knew how to dress up and a suit looked good on him. Tonight, he even went so far as to wear tie, though when the tie would be removed and the few top buttons on the blouse undone was yet to be seen - but it was inevitable.

He walked over to Mandy with champagne in his hands and extended a glass to her. "You're looking quite stunning." He offered her one of his charming smiles along with the compliment.

"Thank you," she took the glass, smiling as she took him in. Maybe not as colourful as what she was used to seeing men in at parties, but nice nonetheless. "You're rather dashing yourself."

Balthazar liked the classic looks, most of the time.

"Well, I was going to come naked, but I was told they frown upon that sort of thing."

He held up the glass and then took a sip from his.

The last time she'd been to a ball, it was for the New Years celebrations in Henry's court: she'd danced with the queen, visited the ladies Mary and Elizabeth, dined with the royal couple.

This time, she was here on her own invitation, with a man she'd was with as a friend and because she liked his company, not from any other arrangement.

The gown she'd bought from Anne was nothing like the gowns she'd worn at home, but still elegant in it's own way, and the way it shimmered and flowed made her want to dance almost as much as when she heard the band playing.

Damien was slightly nervous to be here, as he was very unfamiliar with this type of ball. He'd been to céilithe, of course, but they were nothing like this, and nothing near this formal. He was wearing a well-cut black suit that Anne had helped him pick out, and he smiled at Anna as they entered the brightly lit room.

"Ah, 'tis a lovely sight, isn't it? And ye look beautiful."

She nodded.

"Yes, it is lovely. Not as grand as the English court but still lovely and.." She tried to think of the right word. "freer, with no one to watch out for." The court, in Anna's opinion, had never really been nothing more than a sort of gilded death trap.

"And I must say, you look rather handsome yourself. Your Sioben must've been a lucky woman." She couldn't help but tease, while reminding him of her agreement to remain 'as friends'.

"It's grander than anything I've attended," he says with a shrug. "And I must say I feel a bit out of place here. Someday you'll have to come to a ceileidh - much more laughter and music and much less formality."

The ballroom was gorgeous, festively appropriate, and something about the simple joy that filled the room warmed Klaus even more than he already was. He was genuinely happy, looking forward to the night.

He'd picked Faye up a few minutes prior and it was some small miracle that they'd let each other slip out into the hall, going arm in arm, rather than bolting into her apartment to spend time alone together. He wanted to go to the ball and dance with her; wanted to see certain...other people at the event too.

Pressing closely to her when they walked into the ballroom together, he said lowly, "You do know that you're going to pale all other beauty tonight, don't you?" He was in a classic black tuxedo, complete with a white dress shirt and black necktie, and he hoped he'd done enough to compliment Faye's gorgeous dress and natural beauty.

[OOC: Catch him sometime after their initial entry, when he's somewhere by himself.]

The Halloween and Homecoming dances back home had been hellish, quite literally, for Faye, and the school hadn't had anything here, yet. The invitation for tonight had said 18+, and Faye knew a lot of the teens were having a party of their own, but given how her last couple of teen events had gone...Faye was sticking with claiming her second 17th birthday was her 18th if anyone asked. One didn't turn17 twice after all.

She'd tucked her arm close to Klaus, more proud than she could say to be walking in on his arm. She could feel the skirt of her red, ruffled dress trailing out behind her, different than her usual style, but still sexy in it's own way.

"Thank you," she murmured, smiling at him. "I certainly have the most dashing escort here."

Klaus hadn't taken the time to go to any sort of real dance in ages, and he wanted to do whatever he could to make the night special for Faye. He cared for her more than he realized and had even admitted, but there was something special gleaming between them that night.

He smiled back at her, reaching his other hand over to gently squeeze hers. "Then we'll steal the night together," he teased, though had no doubts at all they looked amazing together.

"Do you know if any of your friends are planning to come tonight?" His eyes swept the room, looking for the very select few people he'd even be interested in seeing.

Faye was certainly sparkling. A great deal of her concern and upset had lifted with the discovery of Cedric's potion. Now that Klaus didn't have to feed on anyone else, it left her with a sense of possibility for them that the other suggestions felt like they ripped away--however foolish that idea.

"Of that I have no doubt," she said with a little smirk.

She watched him look around the room, and a vague flicker of amusement lit her eyes. "Most of my friends are going to the other party, I think. As for yours...I did run into Elijah carrying a tux back to the hotel the other day, so I suspect he, at least, will be here."

Truth be told, Erica was definitely glad she'd made the decision to come to the ball. She was happier than she had been in days and had even found a dress she liked that didn't make her self-conscious because of her belly.

Walking in with John, she smiles to see the tree and takes his arm. "The is beautiful."

John liked the dress too, though he'd be glaring at anyone else who was too pushy about showing their approval. Mostly he liked that Erica was happier.

"It's quite impressive. Sometimes size does matter, huh?"

Erica smirks and drapes an arm over her belly. "No comment. But Laura did a really, really good job. It's beautiful in here."

"She's got class." John agreed, and laughed. "Did she ever tell you about the first time we met?"
