All in all, the holiday ball comes together beautifully. There's a huge Christmas tree that Laura has nothing to do with - the village has a way of making things appear, and honestly, she's glad she didn't have to decorate it. Lucy had decided to play up her best asset--her legs--and go with something short rather than long. Yes, okay, it was winter, but it wasn't like she had to go outside. She went straight from her room to the ballroom, and it was plenty warm in the hotel.

"Holy crap, this is great," she declared with a grin, wrapping her hands around Matt's arm as they walked in together.

"Yeah, for a time warp village in a space bubble they know their consumer based religious holidays." He was studiously not looking at her legs. He wasn't in a suit - he didn't own a suit - but he was wearing a nice pair of black slacks and a dress shirt. That he had a t-shirt under it with a faux Christmas sweater pattern on it was neither here nor there.

"I don't know about making us, I mean... its not like it put trees in our rooms." But yeah, he agreed mostly. The principle any way.

"I have a tree in mine," Lucy quipped with a laugh. "Granted it's like two feet tall. Maybe I'm just special like that."

"Like it just... showed up?" That wasn't fair, he wanted a tree. Of course he thought Leonard was Jewish and Sheldon probably had a not living flora clause in the roommate agreement.

"Yeah...I know, it's creepy, but I've heard the rooms can sort of redecorate to suit people?" She smiled a little and shrugged. "I guess I'd been thinking about home, and mom. We'd put the tree up together every Christmas. I guess the village took pity on me, and it's nice, albeit little. Makes the whole room smell like pine."

"That beats the filthy socks smell at least." Because yeah, ew. Guy smell.

She grinned, rather slyly. "You might've. There might've been a little stuttering involved. But it was cute stuttering."

"Absolutely adorable," she assured him, snagging a glass of champagne from a tray and passing it to him before taking one for herself. She wasn't even a big champagne drinker but it looked like it was bubbly or bust at this party. "You look nice, too, by the way. I can't say I mind the lack of penguin suit at all."

He shrugged but it was awkward with the way his shoulders were tensed.

"Hacking isn't appropriate behavior for his son, getting arrested even less so. When I got into enough trouble that they couldn't sweep it under the rug... I was politely asked not to come home."

"Oh, so he's a dick." Tact, sometimes Lucy didn't have it, especially when irritated. Blame the McClane genes for that one. She leaned in and pecked a kiss, quite firmly, against his lips. "For the record, you're awesome, and to hell with anyone that can't see that."
