Random Fandom Fun Poll #11

Jan 11, 2012 11:23

The new comic came out today.  Hold me.

According to this Wiki and its source, Joss originally wanted Tara to come back to life at the end of S7, and he would have implemented it by having Buffy make a wish.

Definitely with you on the Buffy one, also for the same reasons.

I have nothing very intelligent to respond to the second. Except that Willow and Tara had already reconciled, and Willow's considerably more mature now (although maybe Dark Willow would throw a wrench in the works? maybe they'd get together, Willow would tell Tara about it, and then they'd need some time apart). (And I actually wrote this fic with Kennedy inserted a couple of days ago! Great minds think alike. ;D)

I'm torn because they reconciled but then she killed a guy! And tried to end the world! And if I were Tara, I'd be a little freaked out by that (I'd feel trapped and like I could never break up with her because I'd worry about her reaction; not that I think Tara and Willow would have reason to break up, but you know what I mean). But yeah, Willow is so much more self-aware and they love each other so much that I can also see reconciliation being immediate.

I saw that fic! I'd actually been thinking about switching the Tara question to that day (I've had all the questions drafted for ages and have just been fiddling with the order in which to post) because I was having trouble writing my opinion on Willow/Oz, and I was like 'huh; it could either seem like a timely coincidence or like I am copying her.'

Yup, I don't think Tara would handle it very well. And on second consideration, I wonder if Tara would ever choose to be with Willow after finding that out. I'd guess that eventually, she'd miss her enough to try again, but there'd be this ever-present wedge between them.

Heh, I don't think anyone would think so! I was inspired to write that fic anyway by someone else's ask on someone else's Tumblr- plus, there's a healthy amount of overlap in fandom, and two similar posts on the same day aren't an unlikely occurrence!

It would lead to a strange dynamic between them and probably a lot of hesitation on both sides. I'd also feel weird if I were Tara because it would feel like I'd been brought back for Willow and that's just all sorts of creepy.

I once read a fic wherein Tara was stuck in some in-between and/or unpleasant stasis, and Buffy and Willow sort of stumbled across her and pulled her out. I can't see Buffy resurrecting Tara without some absolute knowledge that she was in need of rescue. Not to make Willow happy, certainly. Of course, comic!Buffy sometimes seems to have learned nothing from her various tribulations, so what do I know?

Heh, it's depressing how completely different of a ball game comics!Buffy is. Course, if she had a magical resurrection wish, I don't think Tara would be her go-to person...

Eh. I don't think Buffy had a death wish. That said, it would have been horrifically OOC for a variety of reasons. If Buffy got a wish, I'm pretty sure that wish would be about saving the world, not putting someone she cared about through possible trauma just to make Willow feel better. I also think it would have been OOC for Willow to want Tara back in such a way after all that happened.

I put 'no' but I probably could go with the possibility after a long time.

Wishing to save the world would make a lot more sense. Or even wishing for her mom to be alive- that's a resurrection I could buy.

After S6, I'm not terribly sure I'd even buy that either unless it was slip of the tongue type thing. I just don't see her *not* being suspicious of something like that.

I don't know, I guess I have issues with it fundamentally. Or at least Joss's stated reasoning behind it.

It is a weird plot, and I'm surprised because Joss doesn't usually do happy surprises like that (although I'm sure he would have found some way to scar all the characters as a result). I'd heard the story for years and thought it was apocryphal until I found that article.

1. Completely and utterly out of character. I can't imagine Buffy wishing that on her worst enemy, let alone a close friend. The only way I could be even a little convinced by that storyline is if she's said something like, "I wish Tara was here," and the wrong ears were listening, so she wished her back but not on purpose. But considering all the issues they've had with wishes, and how careful they all are about who's listening, it would probably still strike me as out of character ( ... )

1. The only person I could imagine Buffy knowingly wishing alive in that scenario is her mother and only then if she were under some particular emotional strain at the moment that made her feel vulnerable and lost and alone. That I could understand because, well...it's her mother. It might be a moment of weakness if she did it, but it's a moment of weakness I would sympathize with.

2. I totally agree about Willow feeling awkward and nervous without any provocation from Tara. Your whole scenario makes a lot of sense.

Thanks! I'm so glad you're enjoying them. :)

1. I voted that she would. But I guess in my head the way the scario plays out is a little like:

PTB: you just saved the world, want Tara back? It's totally cool, she's got stuff to do for us anyway, but we need you to say yes.
Buffy: can I get something/someone else?
PTB: nope, this is your option. Yes or no.
Buffy:okay then, sure

I know Joss likes to frack with his characters, but Tara is not a character easily tortured. There would be an issue, but not a repeat of S6. More like: now the PTB are up to somethibg naughty again, and this time Tara is the pawn... Or something

2. I voted for no. If Tara comes back to life, I don't really see her being aware of reality in the same way (think Buffy S6, but the fomplete opposite). Still with the love, but in a completely different context.

I'm reading this imaginary-returned-Tara as hyper enlightened or something. Not sure why.....

Oh, I definitely don't think it would be a repeat of S6, either. Tara had a lot more to live for than Buffy did in "The Gift," and while she would doubtlessly have trouble adapting, given that a year would have passed, I don't think she would become clinically depressed; theoretically the Scoobies would also have learned from their mistakes with Buffy and would consequently be a much better support system.

Eilowyn did something like that in her "Spike: The Series" episode guide- the PTB brought Tara back as a spiritual guide for him. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?
