Random Fandom Fun Poll #11

Jan 11, 2012 11:23

The new comic came out today.  Hold me.

According to this Wiki and its source, Joss originally wanted Tara to come back to life at the end of S7, and he would have implemented it by having Buffy make a wish.

Eh. I don't think Buffy had a death wish. That said, it would have been horrifically OOC for a variety of reasons. If Buffy got a wish, I'm pretty sure that wish would be about saving the world, not putting someone she cared about through possible trauma just to make Willow feel better. I also think it would have been OOC for Willow to want Tara back in such a way after all that happened.

I put 'no' but I probably could go with the possibility after a long time.

Wishing to save the world would make a lot more sense. Or even wishing for her mom to be alive- that's a resurrection I could buy.

After S6, I'm not terribly sure I'd even buy that either unless it was slip of the tongue type thing. I just don't see her *not* being suspicious of something like that.

I don't know, I guess I have issues with it fundamentally. Or at least Joss's stated reasoning behind it.

It is a weird plot, and I'm surprised because Joss doesn't usually do happy surprises like that (although I'm sure he would have found some way to scar all the characters as a result). I'd heard the story for years and thought it was apocryphal until I found that article.

Oh, yeah, it's true. He said it at a con about a year after the show, I think. There's been some debate about whether or not he just said it to appease some fans who were calling for his head for killing Tara. Sort of a "Yeah, but I was totally going to bring her back! Didn't work out though!" sort of thing.

My issue with it has always been that A) Buffy might probably be the last person in that house to need to prove she can be selfless and B) I really don't see how ripping someone from the afterlife as essentially a gift for someone else is selfless.

But that's all beside the point, I guess. :P Sorry for the OT.

Oh, don't be sorry! I love hearing about fandom history.

I could definitely see Joss spouting off just to mollify fans. Barb said something similar down below.
