Somewhat surprisingly, the journey to the hospital wing was uneventful. Hermione assumed everyone was busy somewhere else, as there was not that much work to be done in those particular corridors.
They had barely reached the infirmary when the door was flung open and her friends rushed out, Harry skidding to a stop next to the stretcher and Ron enveloping her in a desperate hug.
Caught off guard, she nearly lost concentration on her Levitation Charm.
Fortunately the Hufflepuff - whose name Hermione still couldn’t remember - had been paying attention. With her added effort, they managed to avoid dropping the Headmaster.

‘What happened? Where were you? You just - you just disappeared! We were so worried! Harry and I looked everywhere for you, you weren’t on the map and the locator spells weren’t working. Where did you go?’
The loudness of his voice made her twitch.
‘I’ll explain it all later,’ she promised Ron, gently disentangling herself from him. ‘Professor Snape really needs Madam Pomfrey’s attention now - we’ve wasted too much time as it is.’
At that, Harry, who had been staring at the man he had spent years hating, took command, pulling the door open again and levitating the stretcher inside.

Hermione followed them to the infirmary, feeling oddly useless.
There was so much she still wanted to ask - so much she wanted to talk about. So much she still had to figure out. About the enchanted bookmark, about the Professor’s survival, about her own feelings… her feelings about the whole situation, she clarified, not about Snape.
She didn’t think he’d want to spare her another moment of his time. Not now when he was safe again - not being pressured by her.
She imagined having a fireside chat with him one day, perhaps with a nice cup of tea, and snorted.

The first thing Madam Pomfrey did upon seeing Severus Snape was to levitate him from the stretcher to a freshly prepared bed. The second thing she did was to give him a big hug, although Hermione noticed she was careful not to hurt him.
She wondered for a moment whether Madam Pomfrey could also have activated the Portkey - it was obvious the school matron cared for the man.
It was equally obvious that he was in good care now, so Hermione had no real reason to stay. Especially as she knew the boys were most eager to hear her explanations.
