Having a balance arm provides a weight compensation for whatever movements your wand arm is to make.

So to say you were using the Cobra stance and you cast a spell. Your arm will end in front of you instead of behind you, and your balance arm ends behind you instead of in front of you.

The are. You're not the only one who thinks that. But when you're in the process of casting the spell you move your body.

It's been a while since I last taught those two stances. I favored the Tao stance, even though it is now noted difficult and old.

The reason as to why it's crap is that they recommend it for different levels.

One could be an advanced dueler and quite enjoy the Traditional stance. Or a new dueler might fancy the Tao stance.

It's been quite some time that I've seen some of those basic stances.

ooc: cannonly, he rocks at this stuff. Though, he's going to probably flail at anything that isnt -pretty-, or when we get to non verbal spells, hes not going to be able to do those at all xD.
