Predictions

Yesterday, erastes and I were talking, and, since the release date was all over LJ, we started making incredibly obvious predictions about what will happen in Book 7. These are mine:

Predictions, with a dose of snark )

My prediction, lots of wank no matter what happens. Hopefully it won't end up that Harry is a schizophrenic and all seven books have just been delusions.

Or that he's dreamed the past seven books, and is now waking up in his cupboard in the Dursleys' house once more.

My prediction?

The book will read like bad fanfic, and most of the readers will be left unfulfilled.

And Rowling will be nominated for the Card Award for Horrible Timelines again.

Regrettably, I fear that you're right. On both counts.

This is the first time I've read one of the HP books knowing that there's a 95% chance that I'll end up sporking it.

Love the icon, by the way. Who's the girl depicted?

The -character- is Quinby, from my Enderverse series. The actual person is, I believe, Anna Kournakova (I can't spell), a tennis player. I miss her so much somtimes. I think I need to get back into writing Enderverse fic.

This one's Quinby too.

All of the Horcruxes will be hidden in England, despite the fact that hiding one in Antarctica would have been a really really good idea.

Harry will have no trouble detecting, finding or destroying Horcruxes, although to date there seems to be no information available about any of the above.

*snort* So true.

You are like the only person I know who agrees with me that Slughorn is creepy. Everyone is like "OMG, PedoSlug could never happen!" Heh. I maintain PedoSlug did happen, at some point or another.

I do think Tonks's Metamorphmagus powers will be used for something, but I bet it'll be something really dumb or minor and I'll be like, "That's IT?!"

I'm dead certain that PedoSlug happened. And more than once.

Most likely. But like you, I don't think that her powers will be used for anything important, like transforming into a Death Eater so that she can spy on them. I honestly don't think that she will ever do anything with her ability other than change her hair color or turn her nose into a pig's snout. And that's silly, because it could have been useful. But there hasn't been any build-up to such a use in the past two books. There hasn't been one instance of some minor but helpful use of Metamorphmagic in the past two books. And I suspect that Deathly Hallows will be more of the same.

Harry will still not be in love with Hermione.

But, man, if he was ... the reaction would be so priceless.

Oh, it TOTALLY would.

But given that I, whose shipping inclinations are in the negative numbers, spotted Ron/Hermione in the first book...I'm pretty sure it's going to be Ron/Hermione. And if Harry survives, it'll be Harry/Ginny, because Rowling loves Ginny Weasley to pieces. (As became appallingly obvious in Half Blood Prince.)

I'd say it is definitely beyond the pale of any possible doubt whatsoever that Harry is not going to fall in love with Hermione, mostly because of certain things JKR has said. Like, "Harry is not going to fall in love with Hermione." So, it wouldn't be fair if it did happen, but it would still be awesome. The sad thing is, there will still be some H/Hr feeling disappointed and betrayed when it doesn't happen.

Harry/Ginny I'm not so sure about, but I've never been so sure about it and it happened. It's nice that JKR has kept us guessing about whether Harry is going to live or die. I have high hopes and low expectations.

I agree with you on all counts--those things WOULD be cool. But after HBP, I no longer expect JKR to come up with anything cool ( ... )

I've gone through all the DVD commentaries tagged on this lj. I just really love the way you portray Peter. I love the arc you've given him from eleven year-old to order member to reluctant but slowly hardening death eater. Dumbledore's assumptions - his inability to understand Peter in Escaping Wonderland and Pro Bono Publico really resonated. I think JKR means us mostly to buy in to the cult of Dumbledore and to be Dumbledore's men but somehow Dumbledore's behavior never reassured me. I love the way you make Peter pick up on all that and how it worls against him. I really would love to see a DVD commentary for Bargains because Peter and Snape lead the lives that could have been (I mean who knows what Snape's real story is but you show a Peter who didn't want to confess to Dumbledore because Dumbledore might use him rather than really helping him and it seems that's what happened to Snape.) And I love that Peter is the one who is muggleborn and the one who makes Lily laugh with a slinky and I guess I just want more.
