Yesterday, erastes and I were talking, and, since the release date was all over LJ, we started making incredibly obvious predictions about what will happen in Book 7. These are mine:
I agree with you on all counts--those things WOULD be cool. But after HBP, I no longer expect JKR to come up with anything cool.
Besides, and this is very much to the point--JKR only finished writing the book as of January 11, 2007. And the publication date was announced on February 1st...just a little less than three weeks after it was submitted to the publishers, assuming that she sent it in on the eleventh. That's not a lot of time for the editors to proofread the work, or for the author to do rewrites. A couple of my friends got published last year, and the proofreading and rewriting process took MONTHS. Their editors wouldn't even consider announcing a publication date before the edits and rewrites were done.
And JKR posted the publication date on her website on February 1st. Twenty days after the book was finished.
Given the myriad errors in HBP, I can't be sanguine about TDH. I think that Book 7 is going to be a rush job with a lot of continuity errors, canon errors, sloppy characterization, misused spells, misnamed spells, timeline tangles and rampant illogic...just as HBP was.
Are you going to be writing any more DVD commentaries? They are great. I especially loved the ones for Escaping Wonderland and Stopped.
Possibly. I've done a lot of commentaries. Which ones have you seen?
I adore all your Peter fics and your Regulus fics.
Thank you! That's always delightful to hear. I'm still rather fond of Peter and Regulus, even though I'm not writing fanfic anymore. (I'm trying to focus on original writing instead.)
I'm afraid I haven't heard of the story you mention, but I'll check a few Peter sites that I know of and see if it's listed there.
I've gone through all the DVD commentaries tagged on this lj. I just really love the way you portray Peter. I love the arc you've given him from eleven year-old to order member to reluctant but slowly hardening death eater. Dumbledore's assumptions - his inability to understand Peter in Escaping Wonderland and Pro Bono Publico really resonated. I think JKR means us mostly to buy in to the cult of Dumbledore and to be Dumbledore's men but somehow Dumbledore's behavior never reassured me. I love the way you make Peter pick up on all that and how it worls against him. I really would love to see a DVD commentary for Bargains because Peter and Snape lead the lives that could have been (I mean who knows what Snape's real story is but you show a Peter who didn't want to confess to Dumbledore because Dumbledore might use him rather than really helping him and it seems that's what happened to Snape.) And I love that Peter is the one who is muggleborn and the one who makes Lily laugh with a slinky and I guess I just want more.
