[ He's been on the ship for about a week and has maybe stepped foot into his assigned room a total of once. Most of the week was spent being in shock, angsting over his planet-go-boom situation and analyzing all the people. It wasn't good enough to lose all the things he held dear once; he had to lose everything he held dear twice. WHY HIM? Such is ( Read more... )

For certain values of "get along." There's no shortage of conflict here. But no, we aren't involved in a war.

I didn't expect this place to be completely without conflict. That'd be something impossible to achieve.

It sounds like you've been here a while, so let me ask you this: is the conflict something that might come to a head?

It's hard to say at this point. I think the best answer I could give would be "not yet." And even if it does, I'd expect something more like "civil unrest" than a war.

"Not yet." So even a "safe haven" like this isn't completely safe.

Are there any officials here? Like leaders, figureheads or governors...?

[It's a pony. Deal with it.]

Well, I don' know anythin' 'bout no wars 'round these parts, but that's a yes on that second question of yers sugarcube. What makes you think folks wouldn't want to get along?

[ A pony-what. WHAT ARE YOU MIXED WITH, STRANGE PONY CREATURE? And wow, are you from the Swamp or something, pony girl?! He keeps a mostly... polite... expression on his face. What the heck a pony-something is speaking to him. ]

Because people have a tendency to be selfish and hungry for power.

[SHE IS THE RARE NON-MIXED TYPE. REMEMBER THAT BEAR?! Amd you can't grow no apples in a swamp silly. What kind of weird place are you from?]

Not wantin' to hang out fer selfish reasons, okay I get that. But hungry fer power? Really? I best be glad I ain't met anypony like that.

[ NO, ZUKO IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH BOSCO THE BEAR. You shut up about growing apples in the swamp. AND THE FIRE NATION IS NOT WEIRD. ]

It's more complicated than "hanging out for selfish reasons." You've at least heard of people hungry for power, right?

[Have enough animals yet? White wolf staring at Zuko. A war? Why? How could people not get along?]

[ IS HE IN A WORLD OF ANIMALS?! Because of the apparently talking pony-thing up there, he makes an assumption. ]

...So do you talk?

[Might as well be in the Avatar's Spirit World huh? Haha...]

Yes. Here I can.

[ Then you belong to the Fire Nation. >8( ]

Oh. Does that mean you can't normally?

[ Well, uh. This is... strange. Talking white wolf. He didn't really expect her to talk, just asked because it was apparently possible. He figures he might as well introduce himself. Not that he's very good at that. ]

My name's Zuko, by the way. What's yours?

Yes and no. In general people do get along, or more tolerate each other. There are also situations where people don't. But perhaps you are familiar with a place that has a lot more conflict?

You could say that. About my world having a lot more conflict.

Are the situations where people don't tolerate each other a common occurrence?

It depends, I find those situations are more subtle here, and may not even be noticed outwardly. It would also depend on who one was around and what they were trying to do. In the end I would say a rather typical society.

Typical....

This kind of laid-back system is typical for you...?

...well, yeah. Except, not everyone here gets along all the time because some people here are just impossible to deal with.

I don't think people would be human if there weren't some instances where people didn't get along. Just figured I'd ask.

It's strange. Being in a place that isn't at war and hasn't been affected by war.

True.

I take it war's a common thing where you're from?

Some people might call that an understatement. Doesn't matter now, though, not when the entire planet's gone.
