I'm in a new place and eager to get planting on my new balcony (no yard yet, alas). One of the nearby nurseries had a "peach drift rose" for sale; I'm a little addicted to roses and these smelled wonderful, thought it'd be a great addition if I can pull it off. Hi! I live in Las Vegas, right on the border of zone 9a and 8b. I live in a Town House community and a few of my neighbors have some beautiful roses that just seem to absolutely thrive here. I bought several roses this year, one a climbing variety.  It's doing quite well, going from 3" to 4 feet tall this year.  I noticed last week that the rootstock started sending up it's own shoots and it made some very pretty little roses that are white with pink edges.

Can I let the rootstock grow right along with the grafted roses or will doing ( Read more... )

Anybody else looking at freeze / frost warnings for the next couple of nights? I'll be covering my tomatoes, but should I cover my newly-planted roses that I rescued from bLowe's? (I couldn't resist, they were those roses-in-a-plastic-sack but were all very healthy looking, one even had little buds on it - Blaze and Pinata.)

Does anyone recognize this rose? My grocery store has a bunch of these, in different colors, for $4.99 each. I have been in the market for some roses and this seems like a great price, but I don't want to throw my money away on crappy plants that won't survive the season ( Read more... )

So now that winter has finally rolled around in Southern California, and warm days are unlikely... I find myself relatively bored now that all of my plants have been brought inside.
