So, this is something that's been on my mind: I've heard multiple people at various times complain about fanon!Gant, but as someone who's never been heavily involved in PW fandom, I... don't really know what that means. So! In the interest of self-edification (and of writing a better, stronger, fancier Gant) I'd like to know, what does fanon!Gant

I do admit I haven't really followed your threads :< But from what I've seen you don't have to worry at all. It was some time since I was in PW fandom, but fanon!Gant is more of a meme that sprung from the kinkmeme where fanon!Gant=Rapistmachine!!!1

i.e. Gant would be used to set up bad rape-plots with anyone or anything. And it would be focused on what an asshole evil guy he is. It sprung from the whole thing with leaving Ema alone with him when he was being all creepy in the game, I think? Uh, I guess this isn't much help at all, I'm so out of touch :

Thanks for your input. :D As I've mentioned elsewhere, I don't see Gant as a rapist or sexual predator, but I do see him as an alpha male who wants to control and dominate as much as he can. In my mind, this extends to using flirtation and sexuality to disarm and manipulate some people (*coughDeancough*) but not all. And if someone outright rejected his advances (and meant it, *coughcoughDean again*) he'd back off and try to get his hooks into them in a different way. I definitely don't think he'd take sexual advantage of someone simply because he could.

I am very confused as to why you are playing Gant as a rapist or a sexual predator. When he approaches people, he comes off as a sexual predator. That is not the personality that he appears to have within the game itself. Though you may not be playing to the typical fanon, this seems unlike the character in the game itself. Gant does have only one case to pull from, but your additional head canon appears to be off.

In the game itself, Gant has numerous opportunities to be a sexual creature, but there are no points in which this actually happens. I am confused as to why you have taken this character and highly sexualized him to the point of predator status.

Honestly, I am uncomfortable by the way you're playing him and would suggest that you turn down the sex a lot. You are doing it in every single thread, too. Thank you for your input. I definitely understand where you're coming from. It has not been my intention to play Gant as a rapist or a sexual predator; rather, it's been my intention to play him as a predator, period. I read Gant as the kind of man who wants to control and dominate as much as possible; he is the ultimate alpha dog, There is plenty of canon basis for that much, at least. Where headcanon comes into it for me is that I can see him viewing sex as simply another way to control people. When he has shown sexual interest in someone in Camp, it's always been an outgrowth of a desire to manipulate and control (which is how it started with Dean; they met in the mistletoe post and ended up making out, and Gant was intrigued by how fervently Dean denied how much he enjoyed it; this has since grown into him trying to get Dean to open up about his feelings and expose himself emotionally; because getting someone so closed off to do so would give him a great feeling of power and control. I'm a little confused. In canon, Gant is a manipulative and controlling individual. The character in canon is someone who can actually catch you by surprise as being the so-called "bad guy" in his case, which is a remarkable standing in a Phoenix Wright game. Most Phoenix Wright characters are subtle like bricks, whereas Gant doesn't come off as the type of individual who would immediately strike you as manipulative.

In camp, in numerous threads, I find it hard to believe that Gant is subtle. He comes on incredibly strong. I would recommend that you try to reel him in when you do things, as it seems like everything he does is rather heavy-handed. It may also lead to someone misreading his threads with Dean. Quite honestly, right now, your Gant is hardly recognizable to the one in canon.

The issue I see with his sexuality is that you take a character who does things without sexuality being a tool in canon and you make it his only tool in camp. When I read Gant's threads, I see someone

I will definitely work on reeling him in. I'm not a very subtle person myself, so if he comes off as heavy-handed, that's probably less my intentionally playing him that way and more my tendency to be blunt. ^^; But in playing canon, I notice that much of Gant's authority comes not just from subtle behind-the-scenes manipulation, but in also being too intimidating, dominating, and imposing for anyone to effectively stop him. He just crashes through situations like a tidal wave and doesn't stick around long enough for anyone to call him on it. His subtlety only extends so far.

I would like to respond directly to this statement: Gant may be a virile 60-something man who has a healthy sex life in canon, but there's no evidence to this. He's surrounded by people he could have used in this way, but he never flirts or comes off this way at any point, by mentioning that in canon, we always see him a) through Phoenix's eyes, and b) always in a professional context, either at the police headquarters or in court.
