Undressing Your Seeker/Confessor

Mar 03, 2009 17:29

I've been working on making my own version of Kahlan's confessor dress so I've been studying different pictures to figure out just how everything on that dress would work. I thought others might find some of this useful, whether it's for their own costume or as a reference for fic ^_~.

This is interesting. I've been wanting to find somewhere that would make the white outfit, but haven't really looked into it all that much (I can't sew to save my life lol). Although I thought the 'lacings' at the back were just decorative. Kind of a way to spruce it up because it wouldn't exactly be practical having lacing that comes undone at the back because of the hood. IDK it just kind of seems like a seam like on Richard's vest...

Yeah, I'm kinda at a loss as to all the lacing at this point. XD I was going off of the front lacing looking pretty set. Like you said, the hood makes it a little awkward for there to be functional lacing in the back, yet it can work that way. I'm kinda cheating on my dress in that I'm replacing the back lacing with an invisible zipper. Even with the hood it still opens enough to easily get in and out of it. There was no way I was gonna lace all that front part every time I go to wear this thing, so I wanted mine to be set. ^_^

Traditionally speaking, a lady's corset is laced up the back, and a peasant is laced up the front; because a lady has help to get dressed while the peasants don't. Since Kahlan is a confessor and 'above a queen' one who believe that she has lacings up the back so the help can help her when she is in a mother confessor place ( like in Torn) but she has the front lacings cause she travels without help, so she has to do it herself.. Or have Richard or Cara help her. Just some knowledge that was crammed down my throat when I worked at some Ren Fests. Hope it helped.

I like this, thank you for inspecting it. I am seriously considering this for halloween :) I never thought this far into it. how is the lacing undone at the top if its laced top to bottom? do you think it's tied off behind one of the loop holes?

You're welcome.^_^ I might post something that goes into more detail about how I actually constructed the thing, but if I don't and you want to know anything feel free to hit me up for info.

I just added a few additional pictures/comments on the lacing, but from all the pictures I've looked at I'm really kinda stumped how Kahlan pulled two ends from the top. XD

Edit: If you wanted an idea of what I'm actually doing for my version just look above at my reply to sapphs.

I thought the "bra" part and skirt were actually a really long underdress with the corset on top of it.

That would have been my guess, expect that both the "bra" part and the corset can be seen when Kahlan wears her green outfit without the skirt portion. I added another picture to the skirt section that shows that. I guess we need a scene of Kahlan undressing a little more completely for some definite proof of how that part works. XD

Haha, fandom provides you with everything you could want, things you didn't know you wanted, and even the things you definitely don't want. It's a great thing! ^__^

Aww, poor Ichigo... but I do agree I'd rather be undressing our seeker. Unless of course you include musical!Ichigo. I wouldn't mind undressing him. ^_^

It's been a while since I've seen the BuriMyu. And I think I only watched the backstage stuff. It was a bit pointless without subtitles on the musical. Though it was very pretty. Hehe. Though my Shinigami cosplay is better made than their costumes so....

I definitely wouldn't mind undressing Morita.

You posted on the friendship meme right? I dunno how I passed over you... friend?

The backstage stuff is just so full of crack and is great. ^_^ Subbed versions of most of the shows/backstages were posted on the BuriMyu community (flocked though)if you were interested. If links have expired I might be able to upload some for you too.

Sure, I'll friend you as well. I've been meaning to look over that meme again but I got so busy! >_<

Lolol I adore the title Undressing Your Confessor, as if all of us should have one and of course be wondering how we could go about the task :P Nice pull-apart of the outfit, too :P

I'm assuming part of the LotS costume department worked on the Lord of the Rings-I'm so very impressed with the authenticity and quality of the work those guys do.

And a random costume musing: why do you think it is that Kahlan and Denee both have the same style of dress (cloth colour aside), whereas the other confessors have a less well fitting sort of dress with the Y shaped belt/decoration thinger?

Haha thanks! ^_^ You know, I think all of us should have our own seeker or confessor to play around with. XD ( ... )

I'm just going to go with the idea that Kahlan and Denee have similar taste and go shopping at a different place than the others.

HAHAHAAA omg a Kahlan/Denee shopping montage... I can just see it now. “Does this make my boobs look awesome?”
“Oh yes, very nice, Kahlan, tasteful!”
:D :D
