When talking of medieval art
it inevitably comes up
how small animals are
always found within.
A professor once told me
they are meant to represent
human nature's passion.
And I remember thinking:
how can a small animal
possibly represent passion,
when passion can fill that
limitless thing, the soul?

She had fairy wings
that no one could see
they weren't big nor beautiful
nor would they ever be.
But she had fairy wings
and that set her apart
because she knew she had them
when everyone else forgot.
