There was walking into a room on a stupid whim, because you thought you had it noted and categorized, but it was a completely another matter upon walking into said room you thought safe when you really black out. Nothing unusual, no funny smells or sights or sounds. Only black.
This happened, and Volgin found himself coming to in a bed. Where was this bed? He did feel the presence of someone nearby. Who exactly was it? To top it all off, there was only loving(?!) familiarity with his bedmate so it was not a brief, grisly fate promised for whoever was there.]
[That would be Galina, Ivan's husky. Because Ivan was busy on the other end of the room, flustered and blushing into his hands after having read the card laying on the dresser.]
[He was certain he had no interest; marriage was a simple novelty, a frivolous ceremony to affirm what he already knew. And considering where they were from, the only thing fit for public display was military might.]
[Ivan's face was notably red. Not many things could embarrass the younger Soviet, but something like this managed to hit just the right switches to do so.]
[...And not just that, but how would he flirt around with other men if he was wearing a ring?!]
[A snort as he jerked his head harshly for emphasis. He then flashed a look at his own ring, as if fascinated with how far he had come in the way of his ability; metal and skin contact were not long term affairs for the giant.]
One of us said something, and one of us went along with it.
[Volgin wasn't sure which was which. This marriage notion was a foreign one that had never crossed his mind. It had to have been Raikov, as far as he knew.]
[Marriage wasn't something Ivan had thought about either, except maybe with resent. It was for women, women and men, but mostly nagging, insatiable women.]
[He's known for a long time that any relationship he had would have to stay behind locked doors. It took awhile to accept that, but he did.]
It had to have been you.
[Besides, he's grown to enjoy fucking anybody he wants at any time he wants.]

I don't know.
[He narrowed his eye.]
You're fretting.

[Ivan pushed his hair back, realizing he was wearing an engagement ring.]

You're going to back out on me now?

But...that's too much commitment for me!
