Translations (by someone who tutored in Uni):
1. If your student pays you 100 PLN, take it because it's always easier to negotiate down in the future than to negotiate up.
2. If you charge lower, it also seems as if you're not confident with your skills. That may be true, but you don't show it to someone who's paying you.
3. You can save the extra money for rainy days or retrain.
4. I just converted 100 PLN to AUD, which is around $39. That's a bit low for 3 pages, actually. Translators generally work per amount of words, but generally $20 and over per page (around 300 words).
5. Stop underestimating yourself!

Ecla: I haven't got around to giving her a call lately, likewise with Yaoi_Freak. I'm just too good with this 'keeping busy' business >.<. I hope they're ok, what with the economy downturn in US.

2. i am NOT confident, 50% of what i read is like chinese to me XD; stupid aviation. plus this guy is my student-friend, translations are more like additional thing, so i told him "don't expect much", lol.
3. yeah, i've used them for medicine _-_
4. but it's professional translations, polished, proofread, etc. mine are "landing system (or smth like that, you know better)" type~ that's why i was lost.
5. i'm not but i can't overcharge either XD

i haven't heard from ecla, well, we, at loveless, since i think 2-3 years? i wonder what she's up to now.

2. Still, honestly, if I'm a client I have more faith in you if you don't bargain the price down.
4. I spoke with a friend whose husband is a translator, a formal work with credited/certified translation, cost $50 a page. So $20/page I mentioned is peanuts.
5. There, you didn't overcharge.

Would it be stalker-ish if I call her in the next few days? >.>

1. he's not a client, i do it more as a favour XD; plus he said he likes what i've gave him and the rest should be the same: roughly and semi-logical and converting the essence of sentences. duh XD;
4. really? that much for shitty-ass translation, not even proofed? whoa. i like it.

no, why? getting in touch with old friends is just nice. unless for some reason she'd find it annoying like "i wanted to cut off from all this", no idea. i'd call.

I was researching translation rates myself, actually! 1800 signs (with spaces) is how we calculate pages. And depending on which language to which, rates can go from 10 pln to 50 pln. English to Polish are the cheaper rates, ie 10-25 pln, while Polish to English can go from 30pln to 50pln or up depending on the complexity of the text and whether it's a technical text or not. Also translators get paid by what they have written, not what they have read, so you count signs in the already translated text, not what they have given you.

... I have no clue... o.o; I think we first were writing letters and I might have got your address from Kawaii? I'm not entirely sure. IT WAS BACK IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, I BELIEVE? IF NOT EVEN EARLIER THAN THAT. XD

i see, good to know for the future ♥ though i CAN'T take this much because my translations are more lik rough scribbles to understand easier XD; i don't hae any aviation doctionary and don't eel like looking for one <.<;i
now i wonder if it was you XD; gosh, my memory's all blurry and YES, IT WAS BACK THEN IN THE TIME WHEN PPL USED TO HAVE SLOW MODEMS. XD about that forum... anime-smth, gosh, i can't remember but i've met many blog.pl friends there XD; ah, memories ;___;

XD *pets* ♥ I use combo of ling.pl and dictionary.com for technical stuff. First look up stuff on the polish-english ling.pl, then if I'm unsure if it's the right word, I look it up on the english-english dictionary.com. :D;

Idk. XD I do remember one forum where we were together (but that was after we stopped writing letters and started chatting online) where I was pretending to be a guy, because everyone assumed I was a guy (and I just played along with it). XD;
