Heh. Harry says it's a hobo sign. I looked it up and found out that hobos would leave secret codes letting other hobos know which houses had people who would help them. I'm pretty amused by the concept that somewhere outside my home there is such a sign, mostly recognized by the 4 legged and winged folk, but sometimes deciphered by the occasional 2 leggeds who need me.
