Gratitude, sorrow, and pain

I am so grateful for my chosen family. I am grateful for the people here in LJ and in my daily life that accept me for who I am. I am grateful that my husband loves my daughter, that my daughter is a free spirit and that I have people like Harry and my dear friend Emily in my life. I am so glad that for every person who tells me that I am living my ( Read more... )

I am patient while my mother is still alive. After that, I most likely will refuse to associate with them. She has been spouting this kind of nonsense since I was a child. When I was around 10 she told my mother that I was going to hell because I kept a collection of unicorns. Because everyone knows unicorns are a sign of the devil. *Shakes head*

Aha! A new explanation for the "Unicorn in the Garden" tapestries!

And also "sheesh".

You clearly have the patience of a saint.

"You clearly have the patience of a saint."

If only more saints had such patience! =:o\

To Helen:

I will pray for your aunt that she learns to *read* the Bible, rather than... well, whatever it is that she's currently doing with it. =:o{

What a hurtful thing to say to anyone, but especially to a child. Bree is to be congratulated for remaining polite.

I couldn't agree more. I was very proud of my little girl yesterday.

You and Bree are masters of diplomacy right now. Sheesh.

Love you, too.

Mwah.

I am so sorry that your Aunt says things like that. I have a very similar aunt. It just isn't right.

hugs if you want them.

Out of interest, I know *you're* "mixed faith", as it were, but how much is Bree aware of the stuff within (a) the Bible and (b) Christian mainstream tradition that says your aunt is - on this point at least - full of "that which promoteth growth, and is fragrant unto heaven"*?

*(More modern translation: "shit". =:o} )

No need to answer here if you're not comfortable doing so. I ask more 'cos it occurred to me that *you* clearly know this stuff, but maybe she doesn't yet (or maybe not so clearly), and now might be a good time to run over it?

Bree has been attending Sunday school since she was 5, understands most of the parables of the New Testament, went to a catacism and new member class and was confirmed last year. She does have a good understanding of the Bible but she is trying to reconcile the teachings that God is kind and benevolent with what happened to her dad. Dilemmas like that often led to a crisis of faith but she is working it through in her own way. I won't force her to attend church, she has to find it useful and needed for herself.
