I hate to post another article that makes my blood boil, but this one really got under my skin...

Dear CNN,

Was it really THAT slow of a news day that you needed to write an entire article about an apparently best-selling "fashion" book which seems to just be a big steaming pile of (well-intentioned and even more well-marketed) fat-shaming? I've usually got a thicker skin about this sort of thing, but this article really is one of the worst I've ( Read more... )

first off, i must say that sorry the article got under your skin, i prefer to read your breakdown of that article because your way was much funnier! i personally dont give 2 birds, about someone's opinion on things like these. its either, a skinny person whom wrote the book, or fat girl gone skinny... either way, i could care less. not hating on the thinner people, but i for one, dont care to see a sz. 0 in sheer either. its what society has deemed "accepted" and i for one, dont have a part in it. i mean, just because your thin, dosent give you the right to wear a certain thing. i think its the attitude or confidence that makes an outfit. not the other way around. ive actually been on both sides of the track, thinner when i was younger and teen, and now heavier than my "should be" weight, but ill say one thing, alot of clothes fit me alot more back then, and the trends were easier to keep up with when i was thinner, but i was not, and will not be as happy as i am today ..."fatty" i dont think your being to sensitive about it, i think ( ... )

I was just gonna say, that just being "skinny" doesn't mean you're gonna look fab in everything. It has so much more to do with body type and cut of the clothing than weight (also confidence has a lot to do with it!).

"But there is hope. She says even women size16 or 18 can look their best if they make the right choices."

::eyeroll:: It's like she's saying, "It's not too late! Come see the light that is being thin!" And the "even?" That just pisses me off even more as someone who's around a 22. Guess there's no hope for me, eh, Charla?

You know I just don't give 2 figs about it, it doesn't apply to the person I am and if someone actually decided to personally give me that advice they should be prepared to deal with my view of things after I finish laughing.
But I have a question for you and maybe others can answer...What the hell is DEATHFAT? and if its what I think it is..why do you call yourself that? Where did such a ugly word come from as it relates to human beings? I personally hate it, that I have more issue with than someone trying to market a bullpoo book. Hope I have not offended but every time I see that word ..I can't believe it.

Its a play on the "omg we're gonna die from the fat!" obesity epidemic.....its supposed to be a lighthearted joke on it.

Here's a link about it: (hope it works! *fingers crossed*)

No problem. I don't really like or use the word myself, but I get the idea behind it.

lol, articles like that are for those still drinking the kool-aid (i.e. buying what the media sells them.). It's sad that many women do buy in to this, but for myself, I know what looks good on me and that's all I need to know.

I should say, for the record, that the article didn't get under my skin in a feel-bad-about-my-fat-ass-self kind of way, but more from the hate-speech angle. It got under my skin in a way that made me wanna kick those authors in their bony sternums; it didn't make me want to cry into my big bucket-o-supersize-doughnut-pizza-friedchicken-tacos that I obviously eat daily. hehehe...

SIDE NOTE: I actually did just eat a doughnut and I'm not ashamed to say it! My family has a tradition that donuts are "medicine", bought for a loved one who is sick. Knowing that I came home from work early with a fever and a sore throat, my fiance stopped on the way home to bring me some "medicine". <3 ( ... )
