Fifth Floor Common Room, Saturday morning

Sep 04, 2010 07:47

Bruce was just going to walk past the common room and back to his dorm after his morning run, but a glance into the room meant that he saw one of the more bizarre sights he'd seen recently. There was a disembodied hand holding the remote control. It was channel surfing. Occasionally it would use the on-screen guide and scroll quickly through that ( Read more... )

There was nothing going on in Alex's common room save for two of those...weird hand things playing rock, paper scissors. When he finally found some signs of life three floors up, he was just glad the hands were attached to someone.

"When I'm barely flinching at weird ass disembodied hands running around, I think I'm officially completely used to this place."

"There haven't been body parts like this before, right?" Bruce checked. "Disembodied feet running around kicking things, or some lungs just using air?"

"If there has been, I've repressed it," Alex said, wandering over to the kitchen to try and find himself some caffeine. "There's been zombies. Does it count if there body parts come off?"

"That happens regularly at the bar, right?" Bruce asked. "It's too common, it doesn't count."

Cara was not in a pleasant mood as she stalked up the stairs and into the common room. She cast a tight, insincere smile Bruce's way. "I see you've met our invaders."

"It's not a very exciting invasion so far," Bruce said as he watched the hand with the remote pause briefly on QVC - presumably for the brief glimpse of a hand model - before continuing on with its march through all the channels. "You look happy."

If looks could kill, there would be some dead hands in the room. "I woke up to two of those in my room, trying to make off with things that didn't belong to them." Her gloves, to be specific.

"So you caught them red-handed?" Bruce asked.

He wasn't much for jokes, but he had a very good sense of when one would go over as well as that one surely would with Cara. And sometimes you just needed to live dangerously.

Sure, okay, Ariel would admit, waking up to find disembodied hands in your room was a little strange, but, really, once she got to realize that they were super nice and helpful, she couldn't at all be freaked out by them. They were kind of like...kind of like...shell-less, face-less crabs! That was it. Besides, they were just brilliant at doing hair and tying big pretty bows. She hoped they planned to stick around because they could help make her exceptionally pretty for dancing tonight with Christian.

Of course, that was much later and she was hungry and she was pretty sure the hands were hungry, too, though she didn't know exactly what hands ate. "Oh!" she was saying to them as they breached the common room door, "I'll bet you guys are pretty good cooks, too, huh? We could give it a try, anyway, right?"

And then she smiled at the others in the room, waving a hand. One of her own.

"Good morning!"

"Morning," Bruce said. "Did I hear that right? You're going to have the hands cook?"

Ariel glanced toward toward her two new handy friends as if to get their opinion on the matter; they appeared to shrug, so she shrugged back.

"They don't seem to mind giving it a try," she said, and then, despite herself, couldn't help giggling, "So I hope you like finger food."

Wow. That was one of the most egregious puns Bruce had heard in a while. But since he was trying to be more social and she was cute, Bruce tried to chuckle convincingly. "I just hope that doesn't end up being literal. Make sure they stay safe, okay?"

Roy came to the common room after his morning run in search of water and, possibly, breakfast. He headed for the sink without a word to anyone beyond maybe a grunt, and was halfway through refilling his water bottle when he noticed something...waving at him from the counter. "Huh," he said. "Hands." Very observant, Roy, yes. "Hey," he called to the room at large, "When did we get hands?"

"This morning. Watch your belongings, just in case," Bruce said.

"Eh," Roy said with a shrug. "Anything I'd care about them stealing is locked up anyway." Then he looked down at the hand on the counter and said, "Don't steal my stuff," just in case it could understand him. But how could it understand him? It was a hand! It didn't have ears!

"Cara had to be a little more forceful with them than that," Bruce said. "Personally, they seem okay to me. They're just people without the rest of their bodies."
