Fifth Floor Common Room, Saturday morning

Bruce was just going to walk past the common room and back to his dorm after his morning run, but a glance into the room meant that he saw one of the more bizarre sights he'd seen recently. There was a disembodied hand holding the remote control. It was channel surfing. Occasionally it would use the on-screen guide and scroll quickly through that

There was nothing going on in Alex's common room save for two of those...weird hand things playing rock, paper scissors. When he finally found some signs of life three floors up, he was just glad the hands were attached to someone.

"When I'm barely flinching at weird ass disembodied hands running around, I think I'm officially completely used to this place."

"There haven't been body parts like this before, right?" Bruce checked. "Disembodied feet running around kicking things, or some lungs just using air?"

"If there has been, I've repressed it," Alex said, wandering over to the kitchen to try and find himself some caffeine. "There's been zombies. Does it count if there body parts come off?"

"That happens regularly at the bar, right?" Bruce asked. "It's too common, it doesn't count."

"So, I think we can call this a first," Alex decided, coming away with some cookies and some water. "They doing anything interesting up here?"

"That one gave me a high five," Bruce said. "And that one's flipping through channels. I'm curious what it's going to end up watching."

"It doesn't have eyes." Not that Alex thought Bruce missed that. "You're trusting a hand with your viewing habits?"

"Once it decides, I'm done here. I just want to know what a hand might want to watch," Bruce said. "It's not a question you get to test most days."

He was hoping it wasn't porn. That wouldn't end well for anyone in the room. Or it might end too well.

Alex snickered and...hated that he was curious now too. "Well, fuck. Now I have to stick around too. This'll bother me the rest of the day if I don't get the answer."

"Feel free. I just hope the lack of eyes doesn't mean it's pressing buttons for the hell of it," Bruce said. "I'd hate to find out I wasted my morning on that."

"What if the hand just never stops changing channels?" Alex wondered. "You planning on staying here the entire day?"

"Sometimes you have to do strange things to get an answer to a question," Bruce said, not really answering Alex's question. "I'm confident the batteries will run out before I waste the whole day, though."

"Let's hope the hand doesn't stop on something that makes me want to gouge my eyes out," Alex remarked, glancing over at the hand again. "I wonder if they're all related."

"It's possible. But I wonder if they're clones of the same person's hand," Bruce said. "I might have to get an ink pad and take fingerprints later."

"You gonna try and fingerprint every single hand?" Alex asked, raising an eyebrow. "Think you'll catch them all?"

"A random sample would be enough," Bruce said. "Two or three left hands would give enough indication to draw a conclusion."
