Sixth Floor Common Room, Friday Night

Jul 17, 2010 00:29

By mutual agreement, Karla and her parents decided not to talk about about what was going on in Glacia and why she was here at Fandom. They still wished to know and were biding their time; Karla had pretty much decided that telling them would be a waste of time. All they could do was feel bad about it.

Instead, they had spent the afternoon ( Read more... )

Tempted though Sookie was to simply show her grandmother everything, she had restricted herself a bit. She did want to show her the sixth floor, just in case she could find one of the strange rooms. However, when she helped Gran up the last step and into the common room, they were hit with the smell of all that food. And Sookie recognized at least one of the room's inhabitants. "Karla! Think you've got enough food?"

"Sookie, you've seen me eat!" Karla said with a chuckle. "I'm still worried this might not be enough!"

She noticed the older woman trailing behind Sookie and stood to greet her. Even if Sookie hadn't told her already that her Gran was here, Karla could have guessed this was her. Not just the old (though that was a fair bit of evidence), but she could sense the bond between them.

"Greetings," she said, coming forward with a welcoming smile.

Adele stepped forward, extending a hand. "Now, let me guess," she said, studying Karla's features for a moment. "You...have to be Karla, based on what my granddaughter's told me." She smiled, and added, "If I'm wrong, please do tell me now and spare me the embarrassment."

Karla grinned a little wider. "I am, though you'll have to let me know what she said. Though I assure you, any suggestions that I might possibly lead her into mischief are pure exaggerations."

Then, feeling slightly nervous, Karla turned slightly towards her parents. "And may I ask for the honor of introducing you both to my parents?" She gestured to the table where her parents had risen at their entrance, but hadn't yet come forward.

Tim followed his nose up to food. "Hey, Karla," he said. "Guess you were hungry?"

"That and had several people to feed," Karla said, darting him a shy smile. She still wasn't used to this whole 'introducing her parents to her friends' thing. "Would you, ummm, like to meet my parents?"

"Yeah, I'd like that," Tim said. He smiled at her, but the smile didn't quite reach his eyes.

Karla paused a moment, giving him a searching glance. "You sure?" she asked quietly. "I understand, you might thing it's pretty weird..."

Hell's fire, it was for Karla, anyway.

Cloud had been told he needed to be more social. Or just stared a lot, really.

...Aaaaaand there he was. And there was pizza; so far so good.

"Hey; busy day?"

"You could say that," Karla said. "I don't suppose you've heard about what's going on with the island today...?" She gestured towards the adult couple behind her. "My, uh, parents are here. For the weekend, I think."

Cloud made a face for a second; it wasn't a face of surprise. "I did hear of it, actually; nobody came for me, that's all." He was still trying to tell himself that it was for the best. And while he had noticed he two older people, Cloud waited to see if they would be introduced. He hid his utter surprise perfectly; just another thing to add to a list of surprises. An important detail, sure, but there was no point on ruining Karla's day. So he just nodded as politely as he could -bear with him- and decided not to stare.

"Nice to meet you." Please don't ask me weird things.

They smiled at him while Karla made the introductions.

"Mother, Father, I beg leave to introduce you to..." she eyed him briefly and then made a quick decision. She was getting used to gauging where Fandom people would fall according to Blood castes. "...Prince Cloud. Ummm Strife?" she asked, trying to remember back to introductions on the first day of class. "Prince Strife."

She gave him a look that promised she'd explain later. "Cloud, this is my mother, Queen Ilyse, and my father Prince Audric."

Triela didn't sleep much. She didn't need to. So sometimes she wandered around the dorms late at night.

Sometimes she ran into other people who were up late.

"Karla," she nodded. Her eyes swept over the two adults.

"New people." She glanced back at Karla. "From Glacia?" Her hand hovered near her jacket. In a... totally nonthreatening way?

"From Glacia," Karla agreed, glancing down briefly. She held her hand out to stop Triela. "They're...they're my parents."

Triela's hand was already inside her jacket when Karla held up her hand. "Family isn't always a good thing," she pointed out. Case in point: Hobart.

"I know," Karla replied dryly. "But they're...they're my parents," she said again. "If they were still alive...things would be different. So different," she said wistfully. "Would you like to meet them and see?"

Jaime didn't know what he was doing up on the sixth floor. What he really needed was sleep, after all. After all, he'd just met the man who's name he'd taken.

Which had actually been cool and mostly not awkward. So... that was good.

He hadn't noticed Karla yet, but the Scarab had. It was not most pleased.

Yeah, well, Scarab could go suck it. Karla was there first. Nyah.

On the one hand, Scarab had met Saetan. Until it met up with Jaenelle or Daemon, it had really met the darkest of the possible Kaeleerans showing up on the island.

On the other hand, it did currently have to contend with three Kaeleerans.

On the other, other hand--free food!

On the--you know, who was really keeping track of hands at this point, Karla was already drifting over to say hello. "Hi, Jaime," she said, giving him a small smile. "Hungry?"

"Aren't I always?" he asked, managing a smile. His eyes darted around. "Got company? I don't want to interrupt..."

"My...my parents are here," Karla said, giving him a smile that was a mix of happiness and trepidation both. "If you'd like...I'd love for you to meet them. They're not as intimidating as Uncle Saetan, I promise."

Her eyes flicked quickly to Jaime's head. "Pa--Father wears the Opal and Mother wears the Green. I outrank them both."
