Sixth Floor Common Room, Friday Night

Jul 17, 2010 00:29

By mutual agreement, Karla and her parents decided not to talk about about what was going on in Glacia and why she was here at Fandom. They still wished to know and were biding their time; Karla had pretty much decided that telling them would be a waste of time. All they could do was feel bad about it.

Instead, they had spent the afternoon ( Read more... )

Tempted though Sookie was to simply show her grandmother everything, she had restricted herself a bit. She did want to show her the sixth floor, just in case she could find one of the strange rooms. However, when she helped Gran up the last step and into the common room, they were hit with the smell of all that food. And Sookie recognized at least one of the room's inhabitants. "Karla! Think you've got enough food?"

"Sookie, you've seen me eat!" Karla said with a chuckle. "I'm still worried this might not be enough!"

She noticed the older woman trailing behind Sookie and stood to greet her. Even if Sookie hadn't told her already that her Gran was here, Karla could have guessed this was her. Not just the old (though that was a fair bit of evidence), but she could sense the bond between them.

"Greetings," she said, coming forward with a welcoming smile.

Adele stepped forward, extending a hand. "Now, let me guess," she said, studying Karla's features for a moment. "You...have to be Karla, based on what my granddaughter's told me." She smiled, and added, "If I'm wrong, please do tell me now and spare me the embarrassment."

Karla grinned a little wider. "I am, though you'll have to let me know what she said. Though I assure you, any suggestions that I might possibly lead her into mischief are pure exaggerations."

Then, feeling slightly nervous, Karla turned slightly towards her parents. "And may I ask for the honor of introducing you both to my parents?" She gestured to the table where her parents had risen at their entrance, but hadn't yet come forward.

Adele laughed reassuringly. "You don't look as...haughty as she described Emma," she admitted, "and you're blonde and slim. It was an easy guess." Plus, Sookie had used her name but shh I forgot that when I wrote the ping.

Sookie, however, stepped forward a bit, studying the two people near the table. "Hello," she said politely, and not just because the woman who raised her was there. "It's very nice to meet you both."

Heh, they were both on their best behavior. Karla was making certain to give Protocol-perfect introductions.

"Mother, Father, may I introduce you to Mrs. Stackouse and her granddaugher, my friend, Miss Sookie Stackhouse." She turned a little red, calling Sookie 'Miss,' but...she hadn't ever introduced her parents to anyone, okay? It was weird!

"Sookie, Mrs. Stackhouse? This is my mother, Queen Ilyse, and my father, Prince Audric."

"A pleasure to meet anyone my daughter considers a friend," Ilyse said, inclining her head a bit. "Please, call me Ilyse. It seems silly to stand on formality when we have such little time together."

If it struck Ilyse as odd to grant such liberties to landens, she made no sign. which was good, or Karla might have kicked her, fancy manners or not.

"And I insist on being called Audric," her father replied, offering the ladies a smooth bow. "My daughter inherited her distaste for formality quite honestly."

Sookie had to giggle. "It's wonderful to meet you ma'am, sir," she said, nodding to both of them. "And we can drop the 'Miss' from mine, then. Just Sookie's fine. And this is my grandmother, Adele Hale Stackhouse."

"Just Adele, please," she added. "Though you can still keep calling me Gran, missy," she added to Sookie, affectionately. "It's a pleasure to meet y'all. It's been a long time since I've met such a good friend to my granddaughter, much less a family to go with her!"

Probably because Sookie's only friends in Bon Temps had been Tara and J.B. Side-effect of everyone thinking she was crazy.

"We were saying something very similar about Karla," Ilyse said. "Back home, she had her cousin and a friend who lived very far away. The rest of the time, she was pretty much on her own. It's good to see that had changed."

Adele was nodding along. "And from what I understand," she said, turning her focus to Karla, "I owe you a big thank you, young lady. Sookie mentioned what you did to help last month. I appreciate it. Particularly the part where you undid the damage he did to Sookie -- that's a special gift you've got there."

Karla slushed a little, sliding her eyes over towards her parents. "I am simply glad I have such Craft," she said. "Though, I assure you, Sookie would have survive her injuries, though she would have been a long time healing. I am mostly glad we could arrive when we did and stop him from hurting her worse."

Ilyse raised a slim brow. "Oh, what's all this?" she asked. "I believe we're behind on stories."

"I ran into some trouble last month," Sookie said easily. No need to mention that that trouble was the reason her grandmother was a visitor this weekend. "Karla and her Craft -- which I don't use, though I've got some, um...similar, though less extensive gifts of my own -- helped out a great deal." She smiled a little, and added, "She's a great Healer, you know."

Audric couldn't help the proud smile he wore. "It's true that all fathers think their daughters are special," he said. "But our Karla is the only witch in history to be triply gifted: a Healer, a Black Widow, and a Queen."
