Sixth Floor Common Room, Friday Night

By mutual agreement, Karla and her parents decided not to talk about about what was going on in Glacia and why she was here at Fandom. They still wished to know and were biding their time; Karla had pretty much decided that telling them would be a waste of time. All they could do was feel bad about it.

Instead, they had spent the afternoon ( Read more... )

Cloud had been told he needed to be more social. Or just stared a lot, really.

...Aaaaaand there he was. And there was pizza; so far so good.

"Hey; busy day?"

"You could say that," Karla said. "I don't suppose you've heard about what's going on with the island today...?" She gestured towards the adult couple behind her. "My, uh, parents are here. For the weekend, I think."

Cloud made a face for a second; it wasn't a face of surprise. "I did hear of it, actually; nobody came for me, that's all." He was still trying to tell himself that it was for the best. And while he had noticed he two older people, Cloud waited to see if they would be introduced. He hid his utter surprise perfectly; just another thing to add to a list of surprises. An important detail, sure, but there was no point on ruining Karla's day. So he just nodded as politely as he could -bear with him- and decided not to stare.

"Nice to meet you." Please don't ask me weird things.

They smiled at him while Karla made the introductions.

"Mother, Father, I beg leave to introduce you to..." she eyed him briefly and then made a quick decision. She was getting used to gauging where Fandom people would fall according to Blood castes. "...Prince Cloud. Ummm Strife?" she asked, trying to remember back to introductions on the first day of class. "Prince Strife."

She gave him a look that promised she'd explain later. "Cloud, this is my mother, Queen Ilyse, and my father Prince Audric."

Audric cast an assessing eye over the new male being introduced by his daughter, and stepped forward slightly to greet him before Ilyse could.

No offense, Cloud. Kaeleeran Protocol is weird. "Please, just Audric. No reason to stand on Protocol while being introduced to my daughter's friends."

"And I am simply Ilyse while we're here," Karla's mother said, offering Cloud a smile and a nod. "Have you known our Karla long?"

Prince.

Really, a prince. Cloud was freaking out on the inside, but his outside appearance kept the same calm as before; he even got a warmer smile, just for appearances sake. Prince!? Karla better had a good reason not only to tell that to her parents, but also to out him through that. Just like...walking on air; yes, just trust her. Oh, she better has a good excuse for this.

"Audric", he echoed in a calm, easy way; this wasn't the first time he had to play a role...and between this and crossdressing...this was no big deal. "A pleasure to meet you." His attention went over Ilyse now, getting even a little more on the charming edge; Karla was going to suffer his wrath later. "Not for too long; I have recently arrived to the island myself, but she..." And here he took him time to eye Karla in a very 'you little imp' way while making sure her parents won't notice. "She has been quite nice to me."

Yes, he would demand payment for this.

Karla gave him her best unsure-but-game grin, but couldn't hide a bit of mischief. "We have a class together," she explained. "Kind of a...philosophy course." Very 'kind of,' Karla. "Cloud and I teamed up on the last assignment. We have...very similar views, sometimes."

Don't forget about Hooking Up, Karla, and Cloud could swear she was somewhere else in a class with him, or was that Ino? Little blonde girls... He wasn't sure how something like that happened.

He knew what she was talking about though; he would deal with the mischief for now. "Quite similar, indeed; we were capable of making a good team and affront the issue the in the best posible way." Never mind he wanted to walk on air again.

Yeah...Karla wasn't even going to think about Hooking Up with her parents around. In fact, she was going to pretend the concept didn't even exist.

"I don't think that Kerrigan was expecting us to handle our most recent assignment the way we did," Karla said, grinning a bit. "I'm good with that. I feel more comfortable if she can't predict what I'm going to do next."

"That definitely sounds like Karla," Ilyse replied. "She was a real terror to her tutors when she was a girl. She far preferred hiding in the stables, or swimming in the loch, or playing in the woods to study."

"And when she couldn't do any of those things, she'd have to settle for mouthing off to her tutors so badly that she'd be sent to the kitchens to scrub the pots and pans. Even as a wee little thing, she had the worst mouth."

He pretended to look stern. "Where she got it is anyone's guess."

"Mother! Father!" Karla groaned. "Are you going to trot out every embarrassing story of my childhood now?"

"Of course," her mother replied, eyes twinkling. "We have so many to choose from."

At that, Karla's face fell, a little. So many to choose from...but nowhere near enough.

So, at the beginning? What her parents were saying was pretty amusing, alright. The mental image of a mini Karla imparting terror in her home world probably wasn't as cute as it should have actually been, but it was a rather nice thing to know, you know? That she had had a childhood, of sorts; with her parents. But when apparently they didn't do as much as gve her daughter some space, Cloud decided it wasn't particularly endearing anymore. Or maybe it was that in a way all they had were tales of he past, and not even one of times to come. Had his mother arrived, something like that would have happened.

"Well, those are all traits that have given Karla an edge on her life here", commented as he waved a hand. "And little I have to say about it, as I'm sure my mother would love to tell of all my own mischief...if she had come." Cloud might not had been like Karla -he wasn't even the real deal of a prince- but he had been quite a brat none the less. Cue for sympathetic grin at the girl. Maybe demanding payment could wait.

"It's every mother's prerogative to do so," Ilyse said with a tinkling little laugh. "Call it a loving mother's vengeance for how you torment us so as children. I can't remember how many evenings were disturbed by frantic tutors coming in to tell of Karla's exploits. I would be going over papers or records with my Steward and someone would tap on my door and drag in a damp and bedraggled Karla, usually by the scruff of her neck."

Audric laughed a bit too. "You know, I always wondered about that. Karla's antics always grew worse when she hadn't seen you in a few days."

He gave his daughter a little wink. "I'm sure that's just a coincidence of timing, is all."
