Fourth floor common room, Friday evening

Oct 12, 2007 21:55

After being bit by gremlins and making an emergency stop at a janitor's closet that for some reason had matching costumes in their sizes, Jim, John, Gavin, and Karal made their way to the common room.

And then...

"Lollipop lollipop
Oh lolli lolli lolli
Lollipop *weird finger-to-cheek popping noise*"

Where the boys sing. And possibly take requests.

Karal matched him, volume for volume, tipping his head back to belt out the line.

"Like you're under sedation."

Jim flailed forward once again.

"Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again."

And then, to indicate that he had changed characters, Jim started doing something that could in theory be recognized as really bad tapdancing as he sang.

"Well I was walking down the street just having a think
When this snake of a guy gave me an evil wink.
He shook me up, he took me by surprise
He had a pickup truck, and the devil's eyes.
He stared at me and I felt a change.
Time meant nothing, never would again."

The tapdancing stopped and Jim started flailing about again.

"Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again."

And Karal picked up from Jim, turning to face the audience.

"It's just a jump to the left.
And then a step to the right.
With your hands on your hips."

Of course he was doing the actions!

And Gavin jumped out beside Karal to finish the song with a flourish.

"You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane.

Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again!"

And the boys melded into one line, stuck their hands in the air and waved them to and fro, jazz handsing the world.

Jim stepped forward and held his hat to his heart with one hand.

"If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl, "

Jim stepped back into line, looking like he did, in fact, have too many places he had got to see.

Gavin moved slickly forward, tucking his hat under his head and gazing out at the audience that was surely there and was surely watching. This one? It came from the heart, it did.

"Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.

And when Gavin stepped back into the line, he started up an arm sway with the other guys.

They were all effected by the song in their own manly ways. John gave his best pout as he stepped forward for the next verse.

"Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can't change.
But please don't take it badly,
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn't be the same."

He backed into the line with jazz hands in full glory.

With a mournful hat waggle, Karal stepped forward to finish while the other boys hummed sadly along.

"Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.
Lord help me, I can't change."

He nearly had to wipe a tear from his eye as he stepped back.

John stepped to the front with his hat against his chest with both hands.

He thumped the hat to his chest twice as one of the backups sang the bump bumps.

"Where it began, I can't begin to know when
But then I know it's growing strong,
Oh, wasn't the spring,
And spring became the summer,
Who'd have believed you'd come along?"

Jim held his hat in one hand as he gestured wildly.

"Hands,
Touching hands,
Reaching out
Touching me,
Touching yooooooou
Oh, sweet Caroline"

The others chimed in with a horribly uncoordinated "Bah bah BAH"

"Good times never seem so good
I've been inclined to believe it never would"

Jim returned to the line, truly believing it never would.

Karal was so deeply moved by the song he put all his heart and soul into it. Which mostly consisted of dropping to his knees in front of the line while they swayed back and forth behind him, hand reaching out.

"And now I, I look at the night, whooo
And it don't seem so lonely
We fill it up with only two, oh
And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulder
How can I hurt when holding you."

The you got drawn out and he got awkwardly to his feet to drop back into line.

Gavin, secretly thinking Karal was the showoff of the group and the one most likely to go solo and ruin their band, slipped forward and tilted his hat low so it was almost covering his eyes.

And then, right before he started singing, he ripped it off and waved it in a very jaunty fashion.

"Oh, one, touching one, reaching out
Touching me, touching you
Oh, sweet Caroline
Good times never seem so good
Oh I've been inclined to believe it never would!"

And then he slipped back into the line.

Very nearly all together, the boys sang:

"Sweet Car-o-liiiiiiiiiine"

And bowed.

John stepped forward, sober and almost depressed looking. While the other boys sang harmonic backup, he took the lead, singing directly to Jim.

"Ohhhh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh.
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind."

He placed his hat over his heart and bent down on one knee, looking up at Jim.

"So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain!"

He stood and sashayed gracelessly back into the line.

Jim removed his hat and stared directly into John's SOUL which was apparently somewhere on his forehead.

"Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings."

Jim flapped his arms. Because of wings. He stepped back and looked somberly into the other part of John's soul, in his knees.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Jim stepped back to the line as Gavin and Karal hummed.
