Hi there, I could use some advice from all you lovely knowledgable horse folk. Essentially I'm having problems getting my horse to listen to me while trail riding and heading toward home. Probably a fairly common issue, but he's pulling some behaviors that are both incredibly obnoxious and scary for me.

I'm writing this more as a kind of Public Service Announcement for the general equestrian world. To say that what happened today didn't bother me would be a lie; I wouldn't be posting here if I could just brush off the incident.

I've been riding very sporadically since I was about 9 - 1.5 years as a kid, then 1 year at 13, then another at 16 and now I'm just starting again nearing 18. I can't often afford lessons but now I've found a barn that lets me volunteer to make up for a lot of the cost and it's much closer, so I can ride again ( Read more... )

I am thinking about trying Rescue Remedy on my gelding to quell his severe separation anxiety. Mostly it's because I am tired of being dragged back to the barn every time we go out alone, and that's just on foot. He's dangerous to try to ride out alone because he will literally try everything in his power to get back home.
