In a lot of ways I could be seen as a Little Princess. My parents pay for my pony (and my sisters), and we moved house so we could keep them at home. I don't need to contribute a penny to them

you are definitely NOT one of the people i would consider a princess. you are absolutely right... if you hadn't told us, i never would have known that your parents paid for willow... and i read your blog! there is a difference between having a 'free' horse and being spoiled. we love you even though you're one of the "lucky ones".
I really don't think that makes you a Princess at all. I haven't had to work to ride either. I come from a horsie family and mine, well, three are rescues. Two aren't ridden. One rescue is now a true little champion who has done well at shows and then there is my mare who is my riding horse. I mean, I don't know you, but that really doesn't make you a Princess in my books.
The standardbred farm must be fabulous. Standies= love. That's what worries me. What happens to the ponies once the Princess moves on? I mean, they're great horses but still. Aging ponies especially. There's a point where it's one princess owner too many and then what? Auction? Slaughter? Who knows- or cares, apparently.
agreed. the funny thing is, the racing industry (especially tb's) has a bad rep for 'not caring' where there horses end up, but from my experience, they care a hell of a lot more than a lot of these rich little girls. ugh.
and yes, working with standardbreds is a blast. i used to work at the training center/track and my own horse is a standardbred who never made it to the track. they are a fantastic breed. /advertisement
I ride at a barn that is pretty fancy, in terms of the horses who live there and what shows they get ribbons at. If I ride four or five horses I sat on a cool quarter million that day. I also tack up and put away (including a quick rinse and the legs dried) all four or five, unless there is a time crunch with customers coming to see them or my trainer offered me to do five but I have three hours or my trainer wants to school me over fences on two before it rains. Then the groom will help me out

Money always helps when horses are involved. The costs just never stop. I think having an expensive horse doesn't make you a princess. It's another mentality that could easily be achieved by someone with a $5000 horse. A million dollars worth of flesh in one day? I'd be shitting myself.
I got kicked out of my agistment where I got Desi from by one of these. She and mumsy were very into the whole show circuit, they would call me a bush-basher to my face and ask why I got a 'scrub pony' like Danny for, I mean duh, what good was he for anything? When I rescued Desi, the daughter cracked the BIGGEST sads you have ever seen. Never mind that she already had her show horse (who had attacked me in the past may I add) and had JUST been given a welsh mare and her colt. She wanted Desi, but I got in before her. She started going on about what would someone like me do with a horse like her? She needed someone who knew how to ride properly (I dunno what she meant but I think she hated that I ride in a stock saddle), not bush-bash her. In the end she and her mum got the farm manager to kick me out because she was that upset about it. *shrug

Danny is a cute little button. I went to the Melbourne Show with a friend who was doing some classes one year. OMG the bitches! I actually saw one start crying after coming 3rd. She got her Mother to go and scream at the judges! It was absolutely pathetic. That's a real shame about endurance. I was wanting to start it!
