I've never been in a barn like this but I've seen the results of them. It's really sad how those horses get treated and even moreso the staff.

one thing i LOVED about taking lessons at meredith manor when i was 12, my instructor said this on the first day "Until you can groom, tack up,wrap legs and cool down a horse, You don't ride." she later said that she also wouldn't charge full price til i was in the saddle. My family thought that was fair, since all those "chores" are part of learning. Having never had my own horse, I always get ruffled over princesses.

I worked at a boarding stable for 2 years and though most of the boarders were older, responsible, dedicated owners, there were a few horses who got the shit end of the stick.Patrick was a 17hh saddlebred/TB cross with one bad eye(moon blindness)-and one of the sweetest horses you could ever want to meet.He would put his head on my shoulder when I went in his stall and just stand there letting me snuggle on him.Unfortunatly his 18 yr old girl only came out once every couple weeks to ride him and then take off.Stanley was a georgeous 3 yr old TB,but he had some really bad behavoir issues.I gave him plenty of leeway when he first arrived and eneded up being one of the only ppl he seemed to trust.I therefore got stuck with him all the time since none of the other hands would deal with him.His owner was told over and over that coming out once a month or when she was hauling him to a show was not enough, but she was too busy with school and school activities. He could have been an outstanding horse if she would have taken some time with him. nice horse and nice parents don't equel princess, you sound level headed, hard working and dedicated. I think it's more to do with attitude and how you treat others that earns you your Princess status.. if you want it, you gotta be a lot meaner/snootier than that ;-)

I took a lesson at a barn while I was in college and I walked in with my helmet looped over my arm and was handed a horse. I stared at them in shock because that had never happened before and I definitely didn't like it ( ... )
