secret summer unwinder

Jul 22, 2004 10:21

I have discovered there are few things more delightful on a humid summer night than sitting in the apartment after a long day, as twilight descends, with a glass of Courvassier on the rocks*, and a good book. Fatigue and stress melt away into the still night air, and eventually, I'm left with only ice water and a sense of infinite calm.

Somehow I have a hard time thinking of Courvassier as a summer drink. It rather makes me thinking of wood panelled rooms in winter with a roaring fire.

What's your secret summer unwinder?

Cardio-kickboxing until I want to hurl.

As for post kickboxing summer sports drinks, I like a margarita best, I think. Sitting on my deck on a warm evening, sipping one of those and reading a good book makes me feel like life is really pretty close to what it should be.

Heh. Odd, I know. I've also acquired a taste for margaritas, but suspect those would be a bit more involved to prepare than just pouring myself a small glass.

Grand Marnier margarita. Yum.

This cracked me up. Somehow I'd think the wanting to hurl would detract from that whole 'unwinding' part.

I've always been leery of drinking alcohol post-heavy exercise, worried about compounding likely dehydration with a sudden hammer of booze to the head. POW!

Heh, very true. I don't bother with frozen ones though. Now THAT IS a lot of work.

Ah, the hurling part passes as soon as I stop, and then I can crawl away and relax.

Ah, well, I never manage to get to the booze for at least an hour, what with showering and getting myself home, during which I am drinking a lot of water to rehydrate.

Actually, I am more likely to be drinking wine at that point, because it really helps my starving self get by while I cook some dinner.

wine keeps you from starving? :)

(I have this amusing image of you cooking while drinking a glass of wine, setting the glass down on the stove and then Whooosh!, flaming drinks on the house!)

I like curling up with a book in the living room or sun room and letting the bunnies out for a romp. Sometimes I'll stretch out on the floor and let them climb on me and sniffle around. Then cooking a nice dinner and chilling out with a glass of wine afterwards is lovely.

I enjoy cooking, but if I'm tired and need a recharge, I'm not going to cook. ;) Or at least I'll only be cooking after I've had a good long sit first.

Is "Bejeweled" anything like jawbreaker? My husband is addicted to that.

I find too find relaxing for a couple of hours with a computer game to be very pleasant. I have a much longer attention span for games than for reading.

Finding a grassy spot on a sunny day (in a place not too damp and buggy) and stretching out and reading a good book. Shoes and socks off, of course.

and somewhere partially shaded, I hope! I love reading outdoors, but usually need a chair or an appropriately slanted hill.
